I recently purchased a SLX 130 Homelite that had been stored for a long time and appears to have not been used much. It didnt cut worth a poop because it would appear from the pattern on the cutters it was sharpened with an undersized file. It has a 3/8x050 chain and having measured the cutting surface with a vernier I selected a 7/32 file. After sharpening and rounding off the rakers it is very aggressive. I went to some sites for fuel mixture and some say it should use 32.5 to1. I have done that and it starts well on the first or second pull but smokes quite a lot. I got the sharpening info from another site and it was there that they said to round off the rakers. They did have a little peak on them so I did that without knowing why. The shred of wood coming out is flat and about 3 inches long but under an 1/8 thick. Should it be cutting deeper, and could I accomplish that by taking down the rakers some more. Also does anyone know the displacement, year and max size of bar for this saw. The serial # is T8100199

Hello len how are things in Manitoba. You got a great saw there man.The year of the saw is 1981.24" bar max.Better with a 20" bar.I have a few of these saws and run them at 32/1.mix useing castrol super 2 stroke oil and reg gas.Carb ajustments should be 1-11/2 turns on high speed jet and 1-1/4 on low then ajust your idel up till the chain is just under the point of turning.Saw cuts at around 8,000 rpm.Secret to these little jewels are mix gas and oil right keep them sharp and take the starter side off of them regularly and blow them out with compressed air.Saw displasment is 57cc.Even after 20 or so years it still takes a good saw to out cut them and usually one with alot bigger engine.Good luck with the super xl130. Great saw,Great saw.Don.

Thanx Don
I bought the saw for a hundred bucks from an old guy that barely used it. It didnt cut well at all is the reason Im suspecting he didnt use it much. The 3/8 x .050 chain had been sharpened with a too small file and it was essentialy wearing through the wood. Other than that it had a really cold plug in it and was loading up and smoking quite a bit. With the information I have gained from guys like yourself its going great and I am just amazed at the speed and aggresion the thing has. It has a 16 inch bar and Im thinkin when it needs a new chain I may go to a 20. I have some pretty big trees that I have to remove from my lot. Manitoba is having a great fall. It was raining today but I was out there trying out the new tune on the saw. The missus is convinced I have become a chainsaw addict and i believe she is
right.

Sweet little Homy SXL 130 just got sweeter

I was reading the link to muffler mods and decided to take a look at the Homy. Sure enough the factory stamped clamp that holds the muffler body to the engine casting was overlapping the exhaust port. It looked to be as much as 10% counting the corners. Also the part of the engine casting that bolts the rear of the muffler housing to the engine was a rough casting and did not pull the housing far enough down to get a proper seat. It was evident that some of the exhaust gases were escaping prior to the baffles. The primrary baffles closest to the exhaust ports were slightly plugged as well. Nothing like a free fix. Just a bit of filing and cleaning. This is the first saw I have ever owned, but I had used my neighbors Poulan something or other. This one woill cut circles around it. I had it out today and when you pin the throttle and lay it on a 12 incher it litteraly falls through it. Its been well worth talking with you guys thats for sure. Problem is Im looking for another saw just because.
