That series (XL-12, SXL-AO, etc) was built for over 30 years (late 1963 through 1994) with only minor changes. Great old saws. Not worth much money (because they built a bazillion of 'em, and many are still around. They'e lould and they vibe some (although they're not the paint shakers that some guys here will try to make you believe they are). Not fast, but a great firewood saw that's happiest with a 16-20" bar. Yours should have a Walbro SDC carb (which takes a K10-SDC kit), although the earlier Tillotson HS or later Zama C2 could have been swapped on at some point. Air filters are still available from Oregon and Stens, as are the 'duckbill' check valves for the gas cap. A CJ8 spark plug works fine in 'em. Tune them right (see my sig) and they'll give another 30 years of service. Many of them have had the piston/cylinder fried when yahoos have tuned them wrong however. Same with many other old saws...
well saw for sure needs a new front handle. its broke. the bar adjuster bolt is bent so add a new one of those too. lol. on a more serious not i cant get the saw to fire. it has spark and if you pour some fuel straight in the carb it starts up and runs on that fine. it was stored for years with a lil gas in it. any ideas on where to start? wanna get it running before i order parts.

She needs a card kit, check the carb model number (Aaron probably gave you a good number for the kit) and a new fuel line.
And,.....................................................................clean the smelly brown syrup out of the fuel tank.
Always, always, ALWAYS! dump the fuel out of a 'new to you' chainsaw.
At least give it the sniff test.

Using 92 octain & Startron. It works wonders to kill that cruddy gas we've got these days and removes the ethanol w/o adding ethanol.
Anyone have any info on a Homelite XL 10618A Textron or where I could find the user manual or P/L
Saw Carb stamp is dated 1982 Walbro SDC I'm Having issues with the saw starting & staying running. Carb re-built & new fuel lines already & good spark & compression. Appears to flood but HS&LS at stock settings and metering is almost spot on.

Unfortunately Chainsawr didn't have it, but i did find the PL for the saw, was looking more for the service manual. They will sell the manual to you for 5$ call me cheap I guess but i'm sure it's out their somewhere for free. One thing about Chainsawr is They are always out of everything! Just when you get your hopes up because you see the image of exactly what you need after doing a search in tiny red print "sold out"

Quite a while back someone sent me a link to an extensive Homelite service manual that covers the Super XLA. It was on a hosting site because it's in PDF format and about 75 megabytes (need special software to break in down, & most email won't handle 75mb files).

That was most likely Deprime. Bryon's not on AS very often. When he get's here, he sends us old saw nuts links to IPL and SM downloads. He sent me a HUGE list of links a while ago, and I was taking care of IPL/SM requests for him...................but about a month ago I accidentally deleted the PM he'd sent me (that I'd been saving) with that link list. Dammit. I PM'd Bryon, asking him to send me the link list again.......and haven't heard back. He's here maybe once a month, so I just need to be patient. Serves me right for not saving the link list on my computer.....:bang:

The links in his sig go to his Homelite and McCulloch Manuals threads. His posts in his threads list the various SM's and IPL's that he has..........but you need to contact him and ask Bryan to send you the links. I see he's posted as recently as a couple days ago...........but hasn't responded to my PM's....

The superXL was the worst saw on the market, and the most dangerous of the full size 3/8" chainsaws. The ANSI and CSA kickback standards rate this saw as having the worst kickback potential of any 3/8" saw on the market. One of the worst saws for vibration too.

I love mine, have 16" & 20" bars, but I'm a collector, It's got last years e10 gas in it & still runs/idles like a champ.
I just cut up some 12-14" black locust.
