I went to the dump today and this caught my eye as i was pulling out. Looked at it and it seemed like it needed a lot of stuff. I looked at the piston and pulled the cord and it wasn't frozen. I was pretty happy about that. The bad things now...no carb, cover, bar, gas cap and much more I didn't notice. You think this thing is worth the time. Also any info on it would be helpful. Here are some pics!
Thanks guys!!

Why not give it a shot see if you can get it running parts are available at certain outfits sometimes you have to go to several different places to get the parts since most are obsolete if you need a piston and cylinder i have one used one here but stay away from ebay on the parts you pay a fortune for the parts
You have two sponsors on this site that sell nos homelite myself and kyle at edge and engine
I know some others also who have parts non sponsors of course

If you are not sure how to fix it feel free to send me the saw and i will get it running for you i need the work anyhow

Yes, millions of those around. Should be no problem to get parts. Those are great old saws, fun to run, I have two.

Fix it.

Thanks guys...My wife gave me the funny look when she saw it...It was hilarious. She gave me the you're supposed to leave stuff at the dump not bring it home. This is why im on this site. I'm gonna ressurect it. Does anyone have any specs on it?

The powerhead weighs just shy of 14 pounds and it is 58cc's. I have a couple of them.

I may have a few parts. Ill go check and see

But I do not have the air filter cover or a muffler

I just picked one up also, but will be sending it on its way, cause I already have one. They are pretty good runners, and have a good sound

I have, I think, 3 of them right now. They are nice saws. Yours looks like it has a pretty good piston and cylinder and that's a big thing out of the way. If I were you I would see if I could buy a real cheap parts saw and combine the two (or 3) and make 1 real good one. I just got done doing that this morning with a Super 2. It took me 3 saws but I got 1 that's complete. Now for the hard part, getting it to run.

Thank you very much gentleman!..Any help on this thing would be appreciated. I'm gonna start looking for a parts saw. Should I look for the same saw or are things interchangeable? Anyone have a year on this thing?

The XL-12 is basically the same saw. I think the only difference is it has a manual oiler and the super is auto oiler. I have 2 XL-12's and 1 XL super. If your not in a big hurry I could send you a carb. Maybe more. I'm at work so I will check later tonight and let you know. If I have the cover and it will fit it will be blue and not red. Since I think the XL-12's are blue and the supers are red. My parts saw is a blue XL-12.

I think a super is 58 cc and an xl is 52 ? Easy to check on acres site I guess. The supers might all be red but there is such a thing as a red xl as well as a blue one. The blue are older, I think they changed to red in the early 70's maybe.

I posted on AS once that I was told the Homelites changed to red early in 1970s and of course I was contradicted on that but I think that can be taken as a general rule. I believe a parts saw is the way to go if your saw is missing too many parts. It looked like yours needed a muffler, carb, cover , bar and chain. If you bought these parts separately you would have more in it than it would probably cost to buy a used saw complete. I sold a good running Super XL not long ago to a friend for $35 and I've bought them even cheaper.

If you're not a purist just paint the carb cover black. That's what the newer ones were.

I forgot to mention...it looked like to me that your saw was also missing the reed valves and block. It won't run without it. They're plentiful too. There are at least two different kinds; the XL12 block and reeds won't fit on the Super XL, at least that was the case on mine.

You guys are shameless, sucking this newbie into a vortex of saws. I started with a SuperXL too. Still have it, it's just "right". The ported 350 completely blows it out of the water, but it doesn't sound that good.
