Hello all, maybe somebody has some advice and can help me. I recently purchased a used homelite xl2 auto chainsaw. I cleaned the unit, filter, replaced sparkplug, replaced fluids, etc. Fired right up and adjusted the carb a little. Well, I let it run for about 4 minutes with the bar and chain off and no bar oil came out. I proceeded to remove the oiler cover, spring, and diaphram. I will try to explain what I did next.
I removed the oil and gas tanks and oil lines. I remove the oiler cover, spring, and diaphram. I did not see any apparent damage with the diaphram. I took a little rod and used this to simulate the diaphram. I was able to push in and out while blowing into the OUTPUT hose of the oiler (the one going down to the bar. Each time I pushed the rod in and out, I could blow thru the hose. If I let the rod out, I could not blow thru. Next, I put the diaphram in and blew thru the INPUT hose to the oiler (hose out of the oil tank). I was unable to get any air out the OUTPUT of the oiler when moving the diaphram in and out by hand. I can not figure out how to remove the parts in the oiler such as the spring, check valves, and any seats to do any further troubleshooting. Based on my this, does anybody have any ideas on what to try to get my oiler to work, or what to try next? I am not an "oiler" expert.

Thanks,
Mike

Was it idling durning that 4 minutes? If so I'd expect to see little if any bar oil comming out. You should try revving it and see if it pumps some oil. :chainsaw:

re

I was actually reving the saw for a little then letting it drop back to an idle, then rev it again. No oil at all.

I do not know why you could not get oil by blowing through the tube, but the xl2 works of tank pressure. The two things I would check first are one of the lines going into the oil tank has a duckbill value on it. Is it in place. The other thing is with oil in tank start the saw and hold it upside down and watch for bubbles or oil around the cap. You are working with a plastic tank that may have manurfactiong flaws and the cork in the cap reaches a point in life where it stays compressed. Tom

I am missing the duckbill valve. Both on the fuel tank and the gas tank. I am trying to find them. But, shouldn't pressure still build up or will it loose the pressure when the piston is on the up stroke. So, shouldn't me blowing in the hose simulate the pressure? I actuall filled the hose up with oil and tries to blow thru it while moving the diaphram in and out. I was unable to get any oul to come out the output. very frustrating.

homelite xl5 auto oiller problem

The fuel tank should have a filter in it not a value. The motor puts pressure on the oil tank when it travels one way(up or down) not sure which. Without the value it looses it on when it goes the other way. As for you not getting oil when you blew through the line are you sure you had the right hose. I had the same problem my saw and if my memory serves me correct the one that has the value on it goes to an elbow that comes out of the top of the block and the one you need to blow through goes to the plate where the diaphragm is mounted. My problem was with the seal of oil tank to oil cap. I used a file and smoothed the top of the oil tank and then had oil flow. Tom
