No biggie and i do not care whatsoever about a thrashing:), i do not run anything close to a stock filter and there are more than a few daily driven 10 11 and 12 second cars on that site, the eight and nine second cars are pushing that but they do get there on single turbo setups. I do not work in the filtration industry whatsoever and if we refer to FOD on engines look no further than the Navy. Sorry i spent four years in the navy and things break 100X more in the gulf than they do anywhere else, partly because of heat but it can be attributed to the crappy assed enviroment also. I never said those cars were DAILY driven but i know quite a few which are. The oil in the filter is the main ingredient in stopping dirt on a k&N filter. Do a search HERE turbobuick.com they have been using them since 1987 and unless im mistaken noone has blamed any damage of an engine due to a k&n filter. Its strange to see someone knock them, first time i have seen it...

must be pointless then, i just go with something that works for me and i know is not going to damage my vehicle, i have too much use with K&N's with my vehicle and if they caused damage it would have been shown somewhere, as of right now clean all the way into the throttle body and beyond....

Ya know. At one time most people thought slavery and cigarettes were ok as well! I like to think we are becoming smarter as a society. Just because you are ignorant of something don't discount it as untrue. Do yourself and your offspring a favor and embrace knowledge. Look into it, do some research maybe find some test data. Then you can participate in a logical discussion based on facts and not opinions. My son wants to look at the laser sku reader at the checkout line of every store. According to your logic, if he can still see it must not be hurting him! Just because the engines don't blow up after a few hundred miles should you refuse to believe that their aren't any better alternatives? NEWS FLASH: K&N is in business to make money not prolong the life of engines. How do they do it. By balancing the maximum performance with MINIMAL DAMAGE. If it decreases your engines life expectancy by 20% you won't be able to blame it on the filter. With an engine that operates at the level of performance that you claim yours does it would be easy to come up with several other culprits. I do not have hard data to support the 20% statement, I just threw that out as an example. The real number may be as little as .1% or as high as 50%. The point is you need to have data and not opinions if you want people to take you seriously.

OK, things have gotten a little out of proportion here, a chainsaw application and a turbo car application are totally different. Just like a turbo car and a turbo diesel application are totally different. A diesel truck works over extreme conditions, be it construction, or over 750,000 miles of heavy hauling.

To say K&N's suck in a blank statement is pretty silly, since they are on millions of engines all over. Since I own a GN we run them because a turbo makes a great pump but a poor vacuum. So any resticion removed before the turbo can make a significant difference. On a 231 c.i. motor flowing more air than a naturally aspirated big block Chevy it makes a significant difference. Guys have been running these filters for 100000 plus, without undue wear, compressor wheel failures, and piston ring wear. If it doesnt make a difference in that amount of time, then it is not significant for us to sit here and argue about it. Maybe over 500000 miles on a diesel it will show, but not on a gas engine.

I do agree there is probably zero benefit to running one on a stock motor, as they can not outflow the stock filter anyways, and it is not a restriction. But on GN's guys flow enough air to collapse 9 and 10 inch filters, and many run 14inchers.

On the 670 I have a K/N, and its a pain to clean, but without air injection, and with the muffler mods, I think it provides a benefit if kept clean.
Here it is:

Yup, thats why i have 163000 miles on a car that can blast off 11 second quarter miles with ease....and did i mention its my daily driver, boy that filter causes all kinds of damage!

Imagine making a quality product which have been proven time after time to improve fuel economy, performance and can be cleaned after every use....top that off with a fan base of millions who all say that the product is both effective and does not damage your engine....is that not what K&N has done....i have stated my opinion, true but there is no visible evidence that i have seen to back up anything he has said. Ignorance is bliss, go over to turbo diesel and do some searches, i tried this but i have to register and give a bunch of info i do not feel like giving. Perhaps you can enligten me on this knowledge you seem to possess on why they SUCK FOR TURBO ENGINES! Ignorance is bliss, i do not doubt your knowledge on chainsaws, BUT I and many others think you are full of ???? on that statement...you can all go ahead and QUOTE me on that one!

Dude, this is a CHAINSAW forum, not a hotcar forum. Ease up already about the dammed car. If you want to jump up and down yelling and screaming and carrying on about air filters for your car, and the performance of your car, and the mileage on your car, and how fast your car goes, then GO FIND A CAR FORUM! A couple mentions is fine, but you've posted more times in this thread about your car than everyone else combined has posted about saw filters.

geeeez.

If your going to quote me at least make the response pertinant to what I said. You seem to talk alot about your car and very little about yourself. You aren't happy with a "average" car and you seem to want to have the "biggest and baddest".
My question is : Are you trying to compensate for something?
What happened, did the Grand National club ban you from their website? Maybe you could get on a Mustang forum or an import forum or any ???? forum except this one!

You basically refuse to answer any questions directly. You still have yet to address the issues of what filter media is the most effective. I don't care how long you have used it I want to know hard data on how effective it is as a filter media. You may not know this but chainsaws are two cycle engines. They operate very differently than your car. If you contaminate the intake air you contaminate the crankcase. That is where the bearings are. Maybe using a gauze type filter on a CHAINSAW which operates in dust conditions all of the time would be different than using one on a car. If you have a chainsaw then tell us about it. If you like chainsaws let us know. If you want to date a guy with a chainsaw find someone other than me. What ever you do shut up about your car and talk chainsaws or post on the off the topic forum!

Hey next time you post include an average day in school for us.

I bet it will look something like this:

7:05 Went to bus stop.
7:07 Opened mouth, got beat up.
7:15 Got on bus.
7:16 Opened mouth, got lunch throw out of bus window.
7:30 Arrived at school.
7:34 Opened mouth, got slapped by girl.
7:36 Same girl bloodied nose went to nurse.
9:42 Returned to class, everyone laughed at me.
11:00 Went to lunch.
11:03 Handicapped kid hit me in the eye for trying to touch his lunch, still hungry (lunch is in neighbors yard)
11:21 Go to bathroom, open mouth get swirly and forced to eat urinal mint.
11:40 Go to recess.
11:41 Spend next 45 minutes trying to avoid other kids.
12:30 Gym class.
12:36 Last one picked for game (said I have to keep score).
2:00 Return to class.
2:02 Teacher leaves to talk to principal, get wedgy, and have books throw out of window.
2:04 Crying uncontrollably go to office to find teacher.
2:07 Teacher and secretary laugh at me and tell me I act like a girl.
2:40 Return to class, Power Puff Girls lunch box is missing and my book bag has urine in it.
3:00 Go out to bus.
3:03 On ride home kids put gum in my hair and I see my dream car (it's a Buick, like Tiger drives).
3:25 Arrive at bus stop, driver says I have to get off.
3:26 Open mouth, get beat up and run home with tears in my eyes.
3:34 Arrive at home, shirt torn, pants grass stained and Mom won't let me inside.
5:45 Dad gets home and lets me in (he drives a chevy, he doesn't know cool guys drive Buicks, like Tiger).
5:46 Whine to Dad, gives me a straw and says "I have to suck it up". He is such a meanie!
6:00 Eat dinner (boy was I hungry), can't do homework books were thrown out of window.
8:30 Go to sleep and dream about my Buick (like Tiger drives).

Ill heed your advice if nothing useful is said after this. The only thing is I get a little irritated when someone in a roundabout way says i am an idiot. Bwalker everything you have stated does not back up why they SUCK in turbo applications, i waited for something useful to come out of your words but you use a web board to back that up. Sorry but you can go here, turbobuick.com and they will totally dissagree with everything said over there. I have stated everything up above but if you would post a link to that diesel site on some of the info which backs up what your saying, i would seriuously like to know if their is a risk in running their filters..the only reason i keep posting is Bwalker keeps replying...if it bothers you that i am discussing this then dont read it, sorry no car forum i know about has ever said anything bad about their filters...

This makes 12 of your 16 posts about your stupid car. I'm glad this place has an 'ignore' feature. Better yet, take the other advice offered here and find another forum to screw up. :angry2:

Did i say i know about chainsaws...hmmm NOPE
Last post on this is this one since your panties are stuck so far up your ass you had to post something like this.
I stated my opinion that k&n filters do not suck but in fact do their job, your angry so you post a bunch of crap, quite amusing none the less for you, but i seriously was curious on the fact on why they suck, none has truly shown that they are damaging to a turbo engine so this is why ill shut up from here on out. I just thought up something that might be interesting if any of you have a filter handy, take a vacuum, like a shop vac...tape the k&n filter to the end of it and throw as much ???? as you want at it, see what get by the filter..just a thought...like the tiger line, nice touch

165 is right!
Maybe you should try hooked on phonics.
I never said that K&N filters suck. I said that gauze type filter elements do not filter as effectively as paper elements. I also said that there is an amount of minutia that gets past gauze type elements. Address these issues!

Your suprised that I made references to chainsaws?
Obviously one of two things are true.
1) Your unemployed
2) Your employer doesn't require drug screening

Hello McFly your on an Arborist website and in a CHAINSAW forum! How can you not see that you are the one that is mentally challenged? I forgot to mention in your schedule that it was the short bus that arrived. It must be the Grace of God that has allowed you to survive on our nations highways for over 150K miles! Honestly I doubt you could pour piss out of a boot if the instructions were on the heal!

What did you do in the Navy? I doubt you had a highly technical job field. I have explained things as basically as I know how and your inability to grasp simple concepts astounds me.

Spent 4 years as an aviation electronics technician, made second class first time up...in college for electrical engeneering, sorry if i took this this TOOOO literally, i apologize...i never was talking to you about...it doesnt matter, point taken and i am keeping my mouth shut unless its about chainsaws! What are you doing on this forum wasting our time taliking about your Buick, street squirrel?

Dennis,
Are we ruling out snowmobiles, motorcycles, turbines, etc. as points of reference? I mean, I don't work on turbines but I remember the Iran hostage rescue that was aborted cause 3 of 8 helicopters went OOS. Sand.
Huskyman, didn't Cutters Edge go to 2171? And is that filter what comes on the saw?
