Hi- new member- love the forum and I have gained a wealth if info already-

I'm a recent convert back to woodburning and would like to start selling some part-time in addition to my own use- will probably process 15-20 cords per year of ash, locust when I get up and running .

My question is - I have a chance to by a used (less than a year old) SWISHER brand log splitter- 7 HP Intek B&S engine, 22 Ton . It looks brand new, cost is under $ 800 and its within driving distance to pick it up (probably $ 50 in gas to take trailer to get it)

what do you all think? is it a good buy? I saw the same splitter advertised new for around $ 1400 online, but is SWISHER a good brand and will it last me for a long time ???

THANKS !

Last year I bought a Swisher Lawn Vac that attaches to my tractor.

Build quality was superior to the competition: heavier guage steel, well thought out engineering, better hardware. Did I mention it was actually slightly cheaper.

There was a tiny hole in the fabric cover and I called Swisher on the phone. I had an apology from the customer service rep and a brand new cover in my hands in a few days.

I would definitely do business with Swisher again.

Looks like a decent price.

Swisher

I think they have a pretty good reputation. If its appearance is an accurate indication of its condition, then go get it. For commercial use the cycle time will be a bit slow (you'll see how long you need to wait for cycling and in business time is money) but it might suit you just fine. Either way, you could probably use it for a couple months, decide you need to invest more in something different, and sell the Swisher for what you paid.

I don't see a true downside to this considering you can test it before you plunk down the green!

I bought a swisher 34ton splitter and nothing bad to say about it. It works just like it is supposed to and has not failed me yet.
