I bought a 028 from a older Gentleman, Well older than me anyway. He said it hasn't been started in years. I see 3 different 028's on the chainsaw collector corner, anyway what should I do before trying to light this old thing up. All advice wanted. Thanks for all of ya'll's help before.

Just take it in to your local Stihl or independent saw shop. Better question would be "how can I find a reputable dealer with well qualified technicians to check out my new (old) saw". Just my thoughts....btw the 028 still/stihl has a great following so parts will not be a problem.:blob2:

Does it still have the metal plate on top cover under the top handle? Chain brake? Is the recoil cover metal or plastic? These items might norrow the vintage down a bit. If even in decent shape will provide you with many hours of service and parts are still available due to it's popularity.
