i tried several times with our shop's digital to take pix of our very UNorganized cabling supply "pile" in the corner, to show you guys just how bad our system is right now, to no avail. not a noob to the digis, just this one, and the pic won't upload.
my crew has been intalling cables and lightning protection systems on a normal basis lately. it's something that we try to do on Fridays, since it's a little more relaxed than big removals. now its "preservation fridays" we look forward to. now that we are doing these jobs more often, it has become very apparent that our system of organizing all the tools for the job could use much improvement. it seems that right now we have about two options: take all of the cabling gear, including both rolls of cable (3/8" and 5/16" EHS), all the tools in about five different bins/boxes, not to forget all the climbing gear, come-alongs for tensioning etc; or, take only what we think we'll need, and run back to the shop at least once to grab that 1 small tool that we forgot.
already, it sounds to me like we should take everything that we could possibly need to every job. and that is what we want to do, but the whole setup being in so many bags is what makes it still possible to forget something.
what i want to know from you other cablers out there is this: do you have a concise setup, say one big truck toolbox with all the cabling supplies in it, or do you have the separate items all over the place that you gather together each time you must cable something? we've been looking for something sold by some company to put everything in that it would be well organized and such, but haven't found anything yet. we tried to have a box for all cabling things built for us, and the estimate came back at $2000. now we're thinking of building our own. wouldn't mind spending some money, and we will build it if we have to, but thought i'd ask here first.
any suggestions from anyone out there?
thanks
