i go inbetween using a biner ,and a snap ,now reason i ask is i was at my uncles ,sitting on a porch swing wich we have literally sat on hundreds of times (using myself as a counting system, the times i been there) and he had a dog leash snap conecting the chain to the swing ,i dont know why ,but this was a iron chrome plated snap ,well it snapped alright had us on the ground quickly

now im just wondering how long somthing like a biner or a snap would take with the grinding on a D ring to get to this kinda situation

but i have wonderd this,if anybodies snaps or biners have failed because of wear

Easy answer. What is your gut telling you? It sounds like you are questioning its safety. If so replace it, biners and snaps are cheap, your life is not.

Saftey

Biners and snaps should be retired for one of two reasons, obvious wear and tear and age. You figure the stress invoked with tree work then figure how much is going to cost if it fails at the wrong time or place, life or property can be damaged costly . I figure daily use biners 6 months for critica load use l, then rotate them to secondary uses.

no im not questioning just wondering ,my biner is 3 months old ,and snap well its lik 7 months old ,just when that sw2ing broke and i had seen the connection i wondered

Safety

I figure the old gut feeling on a lot of equipment. If you feel uneasy get rid of it and buy new.

Sherrill has rockO's for 16 bucks, free shipping over 100 bucks. They come with a paper that states ten years service is the maximum and that is the max for all ally beeners if they have been used properly, in good shape and never shocked. Rotating beeners is a good way to exceede the standard max life although my personal max life for auto lock ally beeners is about half the industry's standards.

3 or four regular beeners used well, maintained and rotated lasts me 10 years. Its the same thing for women.

Steel snaps for personal support should outlast the person using them. They actually shorten the lifespan of the person using them everytime that person hits hisself wit it. If you manage to hit yerself hard enough to hurt ya with an ally beener then you are definatley doing something wrong.
