Honestly if he doesn't contact me, I don't have much info to go on to locate him. All I know is the town he lived in, his first name, and his cell phone number. I'll get some cheap saws up on the ole CL and maybe he'll see it. He might have just ruined his phone and lost my number. Anyway, thanks for the comments. I just haven't had this situation before.

We have a 30 day policy, though normally wait 6+ months - year, depending on what it is.

If they actually answer the phone or call back then no problem holding it till they get back.
If they have voicemail, usually we say this is call #5 regarding the item, we need to be contacted by xyz day.

Have had a time or two where someone deployed short notice for a year.

Had a guy come back 3 years after dropping off a go-cart and threw a fit that it was gone. He still comes in once in a while expecting it has popped up.

It's to the point that the kids that rode it have grandkids now.

Got a buddy that left his tater plow at my house to do a little welding on. I've had it four or 5 years now, been using it to dig my taters. A few weeks ago I mentioned to him I wanted him to till me up a new spot for planting my taters this year. He wants to till it big enough to add a couple of rows for him. I said sure, I have a good plow to dig them with. He says, you know, I used to have a tater plow, dont know what ever happened to it. I never said another word.

Is he a personal friend by chance then I would hold it forever?

I wouldn't say friend. We don't know each other that well. I'll give it a year. Just to be safe. So come October, if I still can't get hold of him, I'll rebuild it for myself.
Look up your state laws regarding this matter and see what exactly is legal and not legal before you do anything. States all vary on some of this stuff it ain't Fed!
