How many of you use the oil adjustment on stihl chainsaws?

My chain seems to run a little dry and my oil to gas ratio is usually two tanks of gas to one fill of bar oil.

Was thinking of bumping it up a bit but read that once the pin lock is removed that it is permanent, which is fine as long as it doesn’t cause issues. The main concern I have is by removing the pin lock the adjustment will then be free to wander.

Thoughts or guidance??

Turn it to Hi and leave it there.
100%.
But also add, use bars in the recommended spec for the saw power head size. If you are trying to run say a 30" bar on a 60cc saw made by our German friends- odds are the oiler will not keep up with the play.

And put the Stihl Aussie oiler parts in if you can.

I would not recommend anything Aussie in a saw- it will start wanting benefits, an esky full of VB cans and days off at the beach, will never feel the need to work hard.
You might be able to find South Pacific oil pumps though.

All my Stihls the adjustments to the max. Pushed the pin in on the 500i and use that setting even with the 28" bar. Don't know why Stihl even bothered with the roll pin stop as being pushed in does not cause any issue. It is a problem if you don't know about the pin and use bars longer than 28" and are under lubed.

Depending on the model of stihl they don't oil enough for the maximum recommended bar anyway. Quite a few of us have swapped out to a "high output" oiler, which were available on several models. Can't remember ever having issues like this in any of the 0xx series. Husqy never had this issue. Even my 346xp could oil a 24" bar if you were so inclined. My 400cm barely put out enough oil for a 20" with the stock oil pump wide open. 462r oil pump and it oils a 24" very nicely and goes nearly tank for tank oil to fuel. Max your stock one out and never look back imo. Extra lube on the chain isn't going to hurt anything if your running a shorter bar.

All my old <1995 Stihls oil plenty, ~1:1 oil tank:gas tank.

So is it really as easy as punching the pin inwards and turning the adjustment screw?

Any tips before I do it or is it fool proof.

Without knowing the saw model, vintage, bar size, prior modifications it's speculation NOT advice.
What other saws besides the newer stihls run a limiter pin on the oils pump? And yes it is as easy as punching it in and turning the oiler to max.

Yep, I'm running the 461r control bolt and pump piston in my 400...it oils so well that I sometimes even turn it down w/ the 28".
