Quick question, just generally...

How many RPM does a normal, off-the-shelf, 40-50 cc chainsaw normally do @ full throttle? The motor, not the chain.

Thanks in advance.

Doc.

Should not run a saw full throttle without a chain don't know if that is what you ment. It may well do more than 14,000 for a short while.

Okay, thanks... Actually that is what I meant. But it won't be run without load; it'll be driving something, and not @ full tilt, considering how fast it goes. I didn't realize it was that fast. Would've guessed 'round 10 thou.

All right. While I'm at it, anybody have a guess at Horsepower & Torque? Maybe two horses, and five foot-pounds? (tried torque from standstill the other day... it wasn't much) Sound like reasonable numbers?

Doc.

PS, it's a long story

Loaded the RPM on a quality stock saw drops down to more in the range of 9000 to 10000 RPM.

Something else to considder is saws are designed to run at full tilt, running them at partial throttle for prolonged periods may end up causing a lean mixture and engine damage.

Most saws dont produce much torque until up over 6000 rpm and then start to fall off by about 8000 to 9000. Peak torque comes well below peak HP.

It takes about a 100 cc saw before your into 5 ft/lb of torque. 40 to 50 cc saws would be more in the order of 2-3 ft/lb and about 3 hp more or less.
