Ah yes the time honored sport of winching or is that wenching? Oh well!

Good work, Ryan. Never had any problem with the original Willock Notch.

Oh yeah; as to your post question about how much I cut today, the answer is zero.

I win.

"Hey Doug, is this better?? Last time you said it was too big so I thought I would ask"

ryan, lmao. i've carried drunken women home with bigger notches than that!

Good looking signage on your truck, Ryan!

Oakman, in California a notch of that size is known as a "sheep pu$$y undercut". Ryan, we're also known as "sunshine loggers".

Dennis C, thats what I hear. My neighbor is a retired (as of four years ago) logger from cali. , he also used to climb. Russ, you should have seen the skidder when I got it!!! UGLY!!!LMAO:laugh:  I got it cheap and ragged out cosmeticly but for the most part in good shape. I've put new pins in the planetaries, new starter selinoid ( where's spell check when I need it??:p ), new seat new front tires as the old ones were balder than John (no offense John):D new paint (done by yours truely) new axel bearing, repacked the seals in the decking cylinders as well as the seals in the winch, new winch controll cables and some new hydrolic hoses. That sounds like alot but for a '67 thats not bad. On the ground I'm on right now I can pull 500-800bdf per turn, not bad for a small skidder. It fills my truck in 2-3 turns normally depending on the size of the timber.

I havn't been in the woods for a month.
my skidders all torn down for ,new hyd pumps and hoses. cylinders rebuilt. motor replaced again. and a complete degrease and paint.
got most of the pieces sandblasted.

Sounds like you did it right Ryan. Did you do the work yourself or farm it out? I`d have done it myself, but then I`m a retard because I like doing that sort of thing unless I`m pinched for time. BTW, the paint looks very good from here.

Russ

ryan that was me what commented u notch looked a bit deep.. still think it did ,,but u said it was only a bit more to the tree than was showing in the pic..
besides after being here a while i done seen all kinda methods used .. im reading a book now ,,chainsaw savy. not as good as arborist site but u pick up little ideas here an there.. i was under the impression u worked as climber for an large outfit.. u setup looks good..
the most important method is common horse sense.. think a thing thru.. expect the best,, be ready for the worst..later now..

Tony, you're right I did used to be foreman of an outfit but that was just over a year ago. Now its push, push in the bush:D

Russ, I farmed out every thing but the seat , paint and new hydro hoses. I have a guy thats been working on logging equipment for over 20 years and only charges $25 an hour!!! The tires I obviously had a dealer put on as they weigh 300lbs each (not to mention that you won't see me out there trying to put those things on with spoons!!). I got a pretty good deal on my tires though, $800 a pice installed with new tubes and they came out to the landing and did it. The next closest dealer wanted $900 just for the tire plus $50 a tube and $40 per tire instaltion AND I had to bring the skidder to HIM!!!

Good Show Ryan

Hi Ryan, very nice pictures, it looks like you are having fun and making $$$ too.
Keep up the good work and keep the pictures coming.
Knock on wood and send me some lumber.
John

Erik, who's skidder is that? Thanks John, what do you think it would cost to send you the 5,000lbf of #1 poplar I logged yesterday?

Erik, is that a Franklin or a Tree Farmer??? It looks to me like a Franklin 170, except its the wrong color.
