Square foot Leaf area/temp\osmotic pressure etc.; many multiplying variables; for a wide range of answers. Then, humidity/ atmospheric pressure in the air/ how fast and how much water can be taken and held in air. A site will probably have a mass of water used if a tree is growing; than if not; and use more than any other plant

Trimmed tree suddenly having less stomata to transpirate from; so less water pulled/ roots not run at wide open capacity anymore and get unused/ half used. So, the variables continue.

How high is water table/ is ground always wet? Other single trees around?> Reverse question; how can such freely available water effect tree growth/ grabbing ground/ stability? Is there a very well draining point to mound up on; other wind breaks?

Rich I use the figure of 200 gal/day for a mature willow oak (you remember those, right?). That figure came from NCSU, where they measured leaf transpiration.

hey next time thru let's don't forget that hour, ok?:)

how could one stimulate transpiration?
some foods make me thirsty....
my kid gets her hands on sugar candy, it's full ON.

I have a friend with a large Evergreen growing at the front corner of his vacation cabin in Boone.
The tree worries him, but he says removing it would cause his spring to stop.
he has no particular tree care education, just old timer knowledge.

I just saw on CNN headline news where a red oak tree in San Antonio TX. has been squirting out water like a faucet for the last 3 months. They reported that it was leaking about a gallon every 10 minutes.

Just posted at this link above...

The CSIRO in Australia has done some study on this subject and I will find some links to these studies...

An old gf's uncle did his Phd in Arboriculture on E. regnans transpiration rates which is a book so I'll find that also, it should be available through the Uni library he attended...
