I looked at a job this summer its a 5.5'(almost a 10, stump at grade) diameter plus stump well over 30' judging by the house peak its the same plus diameter all the way up with about eight feet of nasty rot at top. 5 years ago the one of the biggest most known tree companys took the top off . they smashed the bay window on the house and told the home owner it was gonna be extra to finish he said stop and they walked away . theres only about 25, between the two houses and there fueding neighbors . picket fence divids the tree by whith about a 1/4 on neighbors side . I bid it a $2000. He told me to call back this winter when I did he asked me to do it for $1200. the cunks of top are dying to smoke the house . its a down and dirty job. I run a 2-3 man crew . Iv been avoiding it but now Im about ready to tackel it . How would you do and how long would it take you. Im probably consevitive on the size it one of the bigest trees around.

Picture? If there is room I'd get a 20 or 30t excavator (Logging rigged with cage, grapple) take down 2 to 3 hours (grab chunks with grapple, saw off, reverse excavator into clear, slew onto truck) 4 grand, more depending on excavator transporter distance. Logger should sub to you for about 120/hr and you cover him with your insurance. You'd wanna see the operator in action prior to hiring as well, there are some maestros out there, its one of those you're after. Also grapple prob won't go around a trunk that size, so you'd need a pretty big chain, log spikes and shackles on hand for the last bits.
