Is it ok on the distel hitch when its loaded for the bottom coild to separate? All the pics I see are without weight on it and the bottom coil is always snug against the rest. Whenever I put weight on it, seems to want to separate at the bottom and I was wondering if all the coils are supposed to stay together?

This is what I am getting when I put my weight on the hitch.

yes mine gets rather distorted looking when under load, and for me thats a LOT of load.

absolutly i climbed on one for a year when transitioning to hitchclimber pully splitail climbing, from traditional, and thats how it always looked, worked good, vt is def a step up tho

Guess I'm having trouble making the VT work for me. Does the diameter or stiffness or the rope it's tied with matter? Not to hijack the thread, but lot of guys in the Dallas area like the Michoacan, I'm wanting to try it out.

Thanks for the replies. Just wanting to make sure that is was supposed to be like that, I have tried to keep it all together but it never stays. I have used the VT hitch, and didnt have any problems with it. Just wanted to try this out. Reading on here I see its supposed to be less fussy, and it easier to tie.

it is easyer to tie, but i found it to get tight like a tauntline would and have to pull myself up hang on with one hand and losen it up to decend all the time, i had 10mm beeline on 13mm rope, same as on my vt except i got a longer beeline for vt

Thats pretty much what I am getting with mine. I used it some more today, and didnt have any problems with it. Didnt get too tight or too loose. Only problem I am having it getting the right length prussic cord. Tried one I made yesterday and it was too short, would get hung up on the other caribeener and not grab so I went back to the long one that I bought pre-made.

I haven't seen that Beeline with the red flecks in it. Is that just 10mm Beeline in your picture?

Sometimes with new beeline and waxy new rope my distel won't grab well, and I either add a wrap, use a shorter split tail, or just dress the wraps before I load it up, until the stuff gets broken in.

Even a proper distel sometimes gets a bit tight, I take the load off mine, and re-dress it, moving slack from the "X" back to the wraps.

If you bring your eyes to the wrong side of the hitch before clipping your biner through, the hitch will hold you but it will bind up.

I think I usually use 26" or 28" 10mm beeline eye2eye on 1/2" rope and 26" 8mm Beeline or Ice on 11mm rope.

Hope this helps.

Get yourself a non spliced prussic cord and tie your eyes (double fishermans knots) to begin with. Then you can tweak your set up and fine tune it to whatever length works best for you. Once you figure out what length works best for you measure it and order yourself a spliced I to I. You can always use your non spliced prussic cord for other applications.

Yes that is the 10mm beeline in the picture. I was shown on a VT, which is what I bought that for. With that cord I have not had any problems with it binding.

I just got some, I have some Beeline 5/16" that I just got and some Ice Tail 5/16" that I got awhile ago. The Ice Tail I didnt feel comfortable with and the Beeline I havnt got the right length yet to see how I like it. I had it as short as it would go and fit but with the tight eye and the caribeener it wants to get hung up and not bight. Still have to fool with it.
