I am have my Husq. 288 rebuilt by a local shop. The saw is now completed and they are telling me that they will not cover their work because I gave them a new "after market" cylinder set. What I would like to know is there any checks that I should have them do in front of me to see if the work has been done correctly ie) RPM check, pressure check? Thank you for any help that you can give me.

Ouch.

Think they could have discussed that issue with you before doing the work??? Pretty crappy ethics in my book. Knowing that they would not cover their work just because an after market cylinder was used, I maybe would have looked elsewhere. Or, maybe I am not understanding you correctly, but they said "any" of their work, or just the cylinder portion?

Geez.

If you have to go back into the saw to make sure it was done right, what the hell did you actually pay them to do?

Anyway, if you can pressure and vac test the saw, great. Otherwise, make sure the RPM is set correctly (which you should be doing as a normal part of saw use anyway), and that the saw operates the same at all angles.

And then start looking for a new shop that recognizes the difference between quality of workmanship and quality of parts.

Work on Saw not Covered

The said any of their work would not be covered. I am going to the place on Tuesday to talk to them and I hope to resolve this. This is why I wanted to know what to ask about and what to look for.

It's the same for auto repair shops too. You take a part in that you purchased in the aftermarket, and have them install it. They won't warranty any of it. Even the labor. However they should have explained this before performing any work.

This is very common. Why should your dealer warranty some part that they didn't oreder or have in stock?. They have no idea of knowing where you got it from. They are just covering their butt for the dishonest people that will try to rip them off. Not saying that you are doin' that... that's not my intent here. just my .02.

Any ethical shop guarantees all of the work that they do. If they don't feel comfortable installing aftermarket parts than they should refuse to do the work. Giving the customer the line "we will install it but there will be no warranty" is usually given to teach the customer a lesson for not buying new parts from them. This is not good business in my opinion!

You guys are missing something here, how can you expect them to warranty a repair using non OEM parts and probably these non OEM parts do not have a warranty on them. The manufacturers warranty the parts not the dealers who install them, they only warranty their work. I assume that if you took them New OEM parts regardless of where they were purchased that they would (should) warranty the repair. I can only relate to you Husqvarna's policy (sure the others are similar) any use or repairs using non OEM parts are not covered under Husqvarna's warranty. I think this pretty much sums up this question and discussion. :sucks:
