Your Suggestion?

What Would You do to a New{have not even started it yet] 395 XPG?

I wiil be running a 24" bar with a RAPCO carbide tipped chain.

Am changing the half-wrap handle to a full-wrap handle.

Have been think to send it to Walker's to get it "Walkerize".
The cost is reasonable.

Will be changing the pull cord handle to a large "D" Style.

Details see the thread under:
EHP Porting / Hunter's Saws-n-Sales

Subject: sweet little pull cord handle.......

Considering rubber coating the entire bottom of the saw with a layer of rubber to protect the saw and to stop the saw from "walking."{some companies do this rubber coating the bottom on concrete cutting saw], I think this is a good ideal.

Your Comments?

This Saw Thing is getting addictive!

Thank You

Joseph

I suggest you do a little more research on the carbide chain before you go blow a bunch of money on it. Unless you only plan on using the saw for cutting holes in shingle roofs, that is.

What do you want to do with it? Right now it sounds more like you're setting it up for cutting vent holes in the roof for structural fires with those mods. Had you considered trying it before you start tweaking it?

What will you be using the saw for? I know pro users want a modified saw to cut the tree down as quickly as possible and move on to the next, but if the saw will only be cutting up some 2x4's and scrap lumber it should be fine as is. Need some more info to help with this question.

Will be cutting 4" X 6" - 12" wood{some pressure treated], some water logged, some frozen. Cutting holes agained dirt with some stone and rock.

A lagging wall.

Not on this project, but in the future, cutting piling 12" to 24" diameter, CCA, greenheart, etc. and timber.

I do Heavy Constrution, pile driving, dockbuilding, fender systems, etc.

Joseph

why walkers? there mods are pretty mild. ehp is working on the 4th 395 jug for me now, he's been getting some pretty serious results from the 395's. check out the video thread in his forum. even a muffler mod help's them come to life a bit.

going from a half wrap to a full wrap seems like a waiste to me but it's personal preference. is the full wrap alot more money because of the heated handle? or can you just add the heater to the full wrap? i don't have any xpg saw's.

i have 5 395's and i'm very happy with them. did you pick that one up on ebay? i thought about bidding on it but didn't want to pay extra for the xpg. it was still a good deal.

what state are you located in?

Full Wrap as some times I have to hold horiziontal cuts both right and left, from a fixed position.

Husqvarna makes a heated full wrap, just changing the Half Heated to the Full Wrap Heat.

I do not know if You can change from a non-heated to heated.

Tell me/ Sell me on why ehp is better?
I do not know anything about ehp.

eBay - Yes, $750.00 new, I think was an EXCELLENT Deal with choice of bar.

I am in NYC area

if your in the nyc area then there is no reason for me to sell you on any thing. pack a sandwich and take a ride. i live near woodbury commons (exit 16) on the thruway. i have wood here and you could run a few saw's. bring that xpg and i'll set it up for you.

i should have a couple of saw's kicking around you could run. http://www.arboristsite.com/attachment_28153.php

The best way to modify a 395 is to sell it and buy a Stihl 660. Just kidding, take Ken up on his offer and you will have a good time and see some great saws.

Hi Ken,

Why is there only one saw like Shirley?

Bob

bob

you can have 10 identical saw's ported the same way by the same guy. and for what ever reason one will always be better than the rest. shirley just wiggles her hips better than the rest.;)

Not trying to talk any sawbuilders out of a job, but someone who is going to be forcing dull saws into dirty wood by the very nature of their work, is not in my mind a good potential customer for the kind of modifications usual here. I have two modified saws and they do go; I would not like to see that kind of a saw bogged. That is not where they shine.

we got half a pack of cigarette's, sunglasses on and it's night time..........

lets go see the penguin..........
