Wow, that guy is on a mission. :) Nice bit of work.

As for the pile self igniting, one of the guys i work for has a pretty big pile, it doesn't get hot like wood chips, actually its pretty wet in the center.

Shaun, hes not an employee, he just showed up one day and started splitting wood. lol

Mixed hardwood's going for $65 a face cord ($195 a full cord) here, delivered. Lot of work for the money...........

Just do enough for myself and help a nieghbour

yeah a cord is 205$ here, thats 16" seasoned wood, cut, split, and delivered. It wasn't so bad when wood was 18", but everyone went out and bought those stupid little stoves. GRRR. when it hits 205$ per cord for green wood i might start splittin' I wish more people would buy those outdoor stoves, i could cut up all my waste wood and deliver it for 100$. Good for me, good for the owner.

That's the hardway? What's the easy way?

  Your right on that one compared to busting them apart with mauls, wedges and a sledge hammer. I just hate ripping wood is all, hard on saws if the operator isn't savvy on how to do it, seems like your doing 2-3 times extra cutting and not getting paid for it plus the dang extra mess to clean-up from the curly fries.

Some day, hopefully, I can get a BIG splitter to quarter those bigger logs or one of those log splitters that mounts on the front of a skid steer, but I have got to get a skid steer first. Maybe some day :)

we rip wood like that all the time, since most of our work is in the back yards we have to cut it up so it can be carried and loaded into the trucks. my saw of choice is a modded 395 with a 8 tooth sprocket and a 20in bar with a square ground chain. makes fast work of big wood.
:)

Where did I see the log splitter mounted on the chipper tongue? It ran off the chipper's hydraulics. Most clever. Not very economical with fuel, and probably can't park it where you need it half the time, but still very cool. I think somebody here has it.

Johnny, There was a Vermeer 620 set up like that on Ebay a couple of years ago.-Cool idea for the small engine chipper.

We are getting $345.00 per cord of 1/2 softwood and 1/2 hardwood. I charge an extra $45.00 for stacking at customers house. If not it gets dumped right in the middle of the driveway unless they have another spot.
