My son took this today it was a large ash that got blown over and hung up in a small maple. Another cold day started out 19 degrees but warmed up to about 22. Removed the tops with a pole saw then rope climbed the maple and removed the rest from there.

Hello there, I just moved to Indiana and am wondering about cold weather gear. First winter, what kind of gloves do you use or recommend? Also, my climbing selewas are not the warmest. Big forestry boots for the winter? Thanks for any help. Mike

For gloves i wear thermal Atlas. The gray ones, or since my local dealer stopped selling Atlas i use bellingham gray insulated gloves.

I just had a thred up for boots. I didn't take anyone's advice. Drove to eastern mountain sports and got a pair of vasque snowblime. Hey have a nice rubber rand. Darn near lace to toe and there not overly thick for a winter boot. I might be able to pull off a summer with them. Time will tell. Other than that i dont chang much form winter to summer

Have you tried wearing surgical gloves under your work gloves? It can get a bit "clammy", but I've found it helps when you have to wear work thin gloves on cold days.

I wear the same boots and socks no matter if it's +30 or -30. Top quality work boots and two pairs of wool socks. Read about this idea years ago and have been doing it ever since. My feet are always comfortable.

I've been wearing these boots for years. I get twelve to eighteen-months out of each pair. I think I'm on my fifth pair and I have to buy my sixth pair very soon.

Surgical gloves for a tree surgeon. Someone should make a pair. Something like Atlas gloves that repel water on wet and snowy days.

Not a fan of them boots you posted a link to. Hoffman's all the way for wearing spikes. I cant wait to try my vasques for spikless tomorrow.

I used to use a loggle style all the time. I noticed that on young trees with a thin bark the sole would trar parts of the bark up. More so on brad.. pears., young or old.

Groundman one. I dont know if you climb but i am a firm believer in the right boot for the right job.
Ill take both boots with me to work if i know ill be pruning and doing removals.

I quote forest" i may not be a smart man Jenny but i know good boots when i see good boots.

Lol be safe guys.

I use flex tuff gloves from northern industrial, red wing logger boots with thick wool socks, and underarmor cold gear thermals with dickies pants a teeshirt with a sweatshirt over it. My toes and heals get cold when spur climbing but other than that I stay pretty warm. The rubber palmed gloves keep your hands warm while working. I had this stuff on the other day with a wind chill of 12 and it was good.

Sounds warm. IX nay on the dickies. Ive been spoiled with arbotwear assender pants. Lol i only have one pair and i wear them evary work day. They get washed once a week, some times or most times im smelling quiet bad.
Best pants ever.

How long you figure those pants last? I'm happy with Dickies, but if they wear better I'd like to try a pair. I'm a carpenter, BTW, but wear out pants.

I am out in this crap all winter. For climbing, I wear under armor cold gear, long jons on top of that and insulated carhardt pants. Then bibs on top of that if really wickaad out. Boots, I bought a pair of hunter boots with a high heel. Kinda bulky, but doable. Feets always be warm. Up top, under armor, t shirt, sweat shirt and hoodie. Sub artic carhardt jacket while getting crap together. Head sock or whats called a baklava, the tactical face mask, not the chocolate! Wear blue atlas no matter, will slide a set of small jersys under them and a pair of columbia snow gloves over when need be. When fully geared I look like the little brother in a Christmas story.

The dickies are pretty tough mine are a little nicked up but when you put a hole in them they dont keep ripping its just a hole.

It is 1 degree this morning and suposed to be colder tomorrow. I some times run long jhons over the underarmor but no thick jackets or bibs its just to bulky for me, I am considering toe warmers for my boots. I do some times wear a thin nit cap under the helmet.

I wear the dickies, just wondered if those other pants may be a little more durable on roofs and concrete, ect. As a whole though, I am impressed with dickies stuff.

No, no climbing here. I pound ground. I can do some easy climbing, I know the equipment and I know some technique from years of watching and a bit of doing, but I am by no means a climber. I am as my title says - Groundman.

As for the boots, mine are ground boots for sure. My climber wears Royer ( I think) boots that are made for climbers. I checked out the Hoffman site. Tasty, pricey but tasty. Never seen them for sale around here, though.

+ 1 on arborwear accender pants. Should hold up well on concrete and carpenter work. Reinforced knees are though as sin. I had mine for close to 4 months i think. For wearing them every work day since i got them and on some days off, i put a years worth of work on them. A few seams came un done. Nothing a needle and thread cant fix. And a wonderful wife to sew them.

I never would have bought them my self. I have an awesome boss who got me a pair. Now i thing everyone should have a few pair. Im now not hesitent to spend 159 dollers on a pair.
