Wayyyyyyyy up North
I have had the chance to pick up a couple of 262's recently and although they work well, the casings are beaten on.

What other models in Husqvarna's line up use the same top cover, clutch cover and recoil assembly? I am thinking that the recoil housing and clutch cover even on the newer 3-series saws may work on the 262, but the top cover on the 2-series saws differ from the "humped" 3-series.

However, with that said, would a 272 top cover fit a 262?

Other saws in this family that would have interchangable parts are the 261, 257 and 254. The 257 and 254 have a single piece top cover and a different air cleaner, but they can be made to work. All of this stuff is still available from Husky.

Nothing from the newer 3 series saws will fit. The clutch covers use a completely different chain brake set up.

262's are great saws; good find!

Spike did not tell you so I will. NO
The rest of the info he gave you is on the money, You will also find that the front handle is about 3/4 of a inch shorter on the 254 then the 262. the handles will fit both but your knuckles will feel the difference.

The 262 shares most of its parts with a 257, everything but the jug and piston will cross. Lots of the 254 parts will fit but the 254 uses a shorter piston rod which means the jug and piston won't transfer, but I've done it anyway (I don't usually follow the rules).

I understand that you did a very good job there........:)

The WTFXP????

Yea, it ended up being quite a small beast. I still am not quite sure how it ended up working out. On paper its impossible, especially after milling .017 off the jug. It was definitely a 254XP jug but it didn't hit the top like it was supposed to. From the best I could figure it is an after market jug/piston that probably wouldn't have been that great just bolted on to the 254XP, definitely not Mahl.

Redprospector came over and I buried it in some dried doug fir, he was impressed.
