Since the saw is almost showroom new looking except for the bar, I'd have to agree, you did just fine for $150. You probably should have been paying more for it, but if thats all they wanted out of it, then consider yourself lucky that you got a steal on an almost new saw.

I just bought a clean 268xp this weekend for 100 bills. IT is disassembled though...I think you got a better deal. They make great modded saws

The non-xp 268 is a downrated (open port) version of the 268xp, and with the 61, still a current model in parts of the world (at least it was the last time I checked).

It is part of a very successful saw series, that started with the 162se in 1975 (162se, 61, 61 Rancher, 66, 266se, 266xp, 268xp, 272xp, 268 - and all the varients of the Jonsered 630, 670 and 625).

As far as I know, it was introduced in about 1993, after the 272xp had replaced the 268xp in the model line-up.

Here is an operator manual from 2001.
Several different IPLs are available trough Huskys Web-site - the serial number of your saw will tell you which one are the correct one for your saw.

well my deal wasn't such a deal after all....It blew up today after cutting about a cord.... I just got it tore down. The rod bearing seized and a piece of it lodged its way into the piston and cylinder....

I guess you win some and you lose some. That was a bummer, I was gonna make a mean 272 out of it, but now it is just a parts saw, unless anyone wants to donate a crank, piston and cylinder

Husky 268

I bought my husky 268 new in 1994.It is still running like a top.It is only used for my yearly firewood cutting but that has been a lote of firewood.Has never been back to the dealer where it was purchused for a thing.Hope i didn't just jix myself knock on wood.:hmm3grin2orange:
Later RCI

I've got a late 80's 268xp, and it's been a great saw for me. Your 268 looks quite a bit different in some details, but very familiar in others. It has been my only firewood saw in AK for over 15 years, and I've done almost nothing in that time, other than plugs, filters, and chains. In fact (not sure I should even admit this), I once mixed up a load of gas with stabil instead of 2 stroke oil. It was cutting as good as ever until it fouled a plug, and the plug was so filthy I got to looking at the gas and !!! Don't know if it did any damage, but it still runs as well as ever, as far as I can tell.

For $150 I'd say thats a damn fine deal.

If anyone can point me to a new saw (Because if that ain't new... someone restored their ass off) that can run with it for $150 bucks, I'll retract my statement.

Enjoy it!
