If I hold the rod against the side the little end will move about 1/8th inch.

That is not that bad.....is there any bluing around the big end that would indicate heating?

It is useable but not opitmum....you may have it last for the rest of your lifetime or it may only last a short while....if it lets go it will normally let you know with a rattle that will make you want to hit that kill switch quick enough.

If there is no sign of overheating you will most likely be fine

Nope no blueing but the entire rod is bronze in color. I will post pics later this week. Still doing cleanup after our ice storm.
