So how do you feel about the Makita 50cc saw (s). They still can be had new in the box. Your thread here is two non strato closed port saws. Seems the Makita one and some earlier grey market Stihl ones fall in this category.
Had 5100 5105 closed port and 510 open. Fine cutting saws but seen issues. So I stay away from them myself.

Seemed heavier too.

But cut right with my other 50cc saws tested with 3/8.

510 weight PHO dry with 4910 346

See if I can just upload videos to here.

If that works.
I just timed the 3 cuts. By feel 346 stronger more pep and thought was faster. But watching video's I thought dang 501 was right there.

346 - 8.50 7.62 7.37
501 = 7.03 7.22 6.97

Using my hand timer and video.

I wouldnt have believed that myself.

Another guy I think used that timer on phone to do very accurate timing. He also caught I cut out on first cut on echo.
501: 1st cut out, 7.15, 6.98
346: 8.45, 7.67, 7.52
Echo 7%

Only thing I can come up with is new ring and piston on first tank. Will try again later.

Something is wrong with the 346.

I've owned 20-25 of this series over the years and bought several new.

Only thing wrong with this 346 is it has a new ring and piston kit in it. Said that above too. ;) Runs great like any other NE stock 50cc I owned. Strong in cuts and peppy saw.

Back when I tested my 550 545 OE saws. 550 OE was faster then 346 NE back then running 3/8.

545 OE cut dead even with 346 NE back then both running 3/8.

346 NE - 550 545 OE 12 years ago in pic then.

Is what it is.

I like the cult like following as it makes them easy for me to sell later too.

That's surprising, I thought the 346 would've had it for sure. Looks like a 4910/501 is in the near future for me

501 dont feel as strong or peppy as NE 346. But can't explain the in cut times. Both saws used same C33 full chisel 325 chain out of box.

Personally cut times mean jack to me anymore. Dont race so even if was few seconds difference wood dont care and I dont.

The 501 can still be bought new and parts. I am just looking ahead. I like old school stuff. Plus it does everything I need cut. Heck the poulans did too in 49cc-54cc.

501 has only the simple muffler mod to keep it from being choked down. From factory they had it tuned in 11's and choked up muffler.
Pulled all that crap out aka restriction tube and opened the front of deflector. Tuned to 13.5.

Check psi on both saws yesterday. Since 346 has new ring and piston. Not even half tank on it and 140ish now. Best I ever had stock new 346 was 160 on broke in one. 501 was 140ish too.

Dont have this many anymore. Sold to locals and guys in my chainsaw repair group. Only one of the good blue black and my dad now.

Get this through your head. It runs just like any NE 346 I ran over the last 15 plus years. Get a life and move on.

Dang saw was homeowner used and not much. Just never cared for. It is what it is and you cant change that.

Even my older saws cut with other 346's I had and some out cut them too.

So go troll somewhere else. Done even trying to explain anything to you.
