I did have a Husky 346xp i didnt like it seemed to burn the chains up fast. what about the 359/026-260/290 ? You guys seem smart I'm just cutting firewood or a downed tree BUT still want the best

If your burning chains theres 2 choices, you cant file a chain or you forgot bar oil.... Nothing wrong with saw...

But if youre willing to let go of it i can buy it for 300e + shippping

:hmm3grin2orange:

Husky 349xp

The Husky dealer thought i may have been burning the chains because i was cutting already seasoned firewood. and railroad ties, He said it's really hard on chains. But anyhow i never really liked that 346xp i like the 55 Rancher better. Tho i am thinking about buying a 359.

well, you shouldnt be burning chains unless you were cutting metal, but lets ignore it now...

Id say, if you wanted a true beast for firewood cutting get husqvarna 357xp instead of 359, its much more of a saw and will run with ms361 (since someone will soon tell you buy it instead of 357)...

You can have all the power of an MS 880 and it is only going to be good as long as the chain is sharp. Cutting RxR ties is some tough stuff for a chain. You may want to look into a carbide loop. The 346 should be pretty tapped doing work like that. It was designed and intended as a limbing/pulpwood saw. I don't know if I would be using it on the regular to cut ties. Oh ya the 359 is a fine saw, underrated and quite possibly hated here, nevertheless a fine saw IMHO. :dizzy:

There's your problem. Those things are hell on chains, and are one of the few instances where carbide tipped or inject-a-sharp carbide-deposit chains are the correct tool for the job.

Your trouble has precious little, if anything, to do with the powerhead driving the chains.

Of the options you list only the 359 would give you something more.

But It won't solve the problem your having. If you dont go to a carbide chain for that stuff, at least go to a semi chisle and sharpen it with a conservative angle. That should help. Also when it starts to get hard cutting, stop and resharpen before you heat things up too much and destroy your lubrication and chain and bar.

The 359 would probably suit you best. The MS290 isn't really a comparable saw, and the 260 just too small.

I agree! ;)

Buying a MS290 instead of the 346 would be like trading a porsche against a big fat slow chevy van. My father in law has one. Runs ok for five minutes, then you have to clean the air filter. It's mounted directly on the carburator without and anti-vibe rubber between and it hence vibrates along with the carburator and engine, causing some kind of static force that basically sucks the dirt into it ;) Some self-get-dirty mechanism à là Stihl. It's a saw not aimed for professionals. Your 346 is a higly respected Pro-quality saw. Don't down-grade!

The MS260 is a good saw, but not as good as the newer 346 and wouldn't bring you any extra power. The 359 would give you some more raw power for firewood cutting though. Responds good to mods.
