hi im new here and have been looking through your posts on firewood saws, It seems like the husky 350 is highly praised as an excelent cheap saw but are they still made? if not would a 353 or a 357 be closer to what a 350 was? would a 5100 dolmar be a equal saw, and what would the equivelent stihl be? Oh yea I block up 8 cords a year mostly maple ,rock maple and white and yellow birch mostly under 12'' never over 18'' I usually block fire wood after work for an hour or so untill it is done. I currently have a poulan blackhawk 49cc and a modded wildthing. HELP.

350 is still on be market and im quite sure it will stay on it for few years more...

dolmar 5100 has more power than 350(or 353) but its quite a bit heavier, so its up to you if can justify the extra weight for power...

And about stihls, theres no equivalent model to 350, theyre either heavier, or have less power and generally are older tech than huskies...

The three Husky's you mentioned are all good saws, get somewhere you can pick'em up and handle'em. Then decide for yourself, you're the one that has to run it.

A stihl ms250 will cut right with a husky 350. They are $300 new, Some people will down it here but I have no complaints with that saw.

The MS250 is nowhere near the Husky 350 in the real world, even though the power rating is about the same. The Husky is just a much nicer saw to use, in all respects but weight - and the weight difference really is negliable....;)

If you go to the Husky website you can run a comparison of their various saws. You might also want to take a look at the 455 Rancher and the 359 (or it's big brother the 357xp). Both are good medium size saws in the 3 +/- hp range. With a good sharp chain and proper saw maintenance all the mentioned saws in these posts should work very well for you.

Click on chain saws button. They even have a product selection help section.

no 350 for Canada

I just checked the husky Canada website and the 350 is not listed but it is on the US site, Ill call the dealer tommorow to check for sure, I checked prices on the 353(659.90) and the 357(829.90) plus tax, they are definitly out of my price range.

Hi bobc from N.S.I just picked up a Jonsered 2156 a couple days ago(same as 357Husky only prettier:laugh: )from Griffins in Kentville for 699.00.I traded in an 026 and 350 Husky. It's probably still there. All rebuilt and needs nothing.Works very well.

I contacted Proudfoot motors today and was told no more 350  guy there told me they have the 55Rancher on sale for 399.99 and its a better saw any way , is this true? I called the dolmar dealer and he has the ps5100 for 410.00, these saws are in the right price range for me, which is better and are there any other saws that compete in this price range(canadian).
I am not worried about weight I just want a saw that wont break all the time and is easy to maintain.

Why would the 350 not be available in Canada? It would seem that you guys up there could use some more affordable saw options.

If it is a 55 Rancher, yes its a much better saw, if it's a 455 not really. I think the 455 is too heavy for no more than you gain over the 350 power wise. The 5100 has been recieving great reviews, I've yet to run one. I have also been hearing good things about the 460 husky, if you can get one it would be worth looking at. The 353 and 357 all into the "pro" clasification, thus the heavey price tag. I really don't like the Stihls in that class, but if they are a lot lower price wise, I would encourage you to go that route. They will work fine, I just think there are better options out there, at least in the states, for a better price.
Just remeber, you have to pay for it, and you have to run it, so get what you can affored, and what feels comfortable to you.

The 55 is a bit more powerfull, and is a bit better made (more magnesium) - but it is an old construction, with a lot more vibes as well, and a good bit heavier.....

They are still sold here also, the last of the ol' two digit "farm saws".

Im talking about a 55Rancher is that the same as a 55? Do 55Ranchers have a magnesium case? do they last? I tried a MS270 after work, kind of heavy but built like a tank, looks like it could last a long time? the guy offered it to me for 539.00 and tax does that sound good? IM going to go check out that rancher as soon as I can.

I just looked at a new 55 this morning. The dealer in my area said he found a shipment somewhere before they became unavailable. It had a magnesium case, compression release, and a 3/8 chain. I understand that the Rancher was the same except for a compression release. The specifications state it weighs 11.4 lbs.. I am trying to compare the 55 to the 350. So far it appears the 55 is superior. The 350 shows to weigh 10.6 lbs., that is not much difference considering you get the magnesium case with the 55. The carb on the 55 is supposed to be fully adjustable compared to the 350's limited adjustment (2006 model). I also like the 3/8 chain. Any thoughts or opinons on which one is better?

460 husky is basically a 60cc version of the 455. Kinda like an MS310 is to a MS290 in stihl. Everything else is basically the same.

Right, but it seems to have better power, that was my complaint, the little more power the 455 made was lost on the 20" bar with 3/8's chain, and the weight sucked!! I feel the same about the ms 270/280 as I do about the 455, I wouldn't own one!

while not fantastic, the 280 has a better power to weight ratio than a 455. I try and sell ppl a 280 if they're looking at a 310 or a 290. For people who bouht 55 Ranchers from us, we always had 20 inch 3/8" on them as it was. So while I prefer an 18" (but even as mgr don't have too much say on bar size) the 20" 455 is gonna be a lil stronger to someone who bought a 55 from us.

we sell more 350s than any other saw from our shop 18" 325 on them $1039 nz dollars out the door 455 yuck we cant sell them to heavy put ppl into 365s instead sell lots of those as well

True, and I wouldn't want any of those saws, really.

If I was forced to pick one of them, it would be the Husky 460 though.......

...but I would rather have the MS280, than any of them.
