I got over to see the 55 Rancher after work, I think it was actually a 55 because thats all that was on it for model number and it had a decompression valve, it was made in Brazil? After handling a ms270 and ms260 yesterday the 55 seemed pretty old. Does anyone know if sthil will be having any promotions in the near future? I'm not in a big hurry to get my new saw ,wont need it until sept so I want to make sure I get the best deal possible on a saw that will last a long time, I really appreciate all of your imput and opinions.Thank you all.

Thanks for your imput

Well looks like my saw hunt is over. I called the local dealer to ask the price on a ms290 "I know its heavy but me strong" and he remembered me from looking at his ms270 last week, he mentions the 270,i say i liked the ms260 best,he says he sold 3 260 this week and had one left, then he says be here before one oclock and it would be mine for XXX.XX amount of dollars. I say thanks for the awsome offer but wife would casterate me with it. Then wife tells me go for it!!! She is pregnant so I figure its hormones and rush to shop and get my new MS260 for less than the sale price on the 270. I know some dont like this saw but between the husky 55 and the ms260 i think I made the best choice. Got it home dug two logs out from the snow ,blocked em up, love it what a nice saw!! Any one have tips on makeing a ms260 last a long long time??? Besides the smart ass that is about to type dont use it.

Congrats first off!!! The 260 isn't a BAD saw, it's just that there are better ones out there! But buying it for less than a 270, you did great!
I love the pregnant hormones!!! Thats how I got my Hobart generator/welder, anyway.............

Keep you're saw clean, always use a quality two stroke mix, always make sure youre fuel is mixed, clean out youre air filter regularly. Keep you're chain sharp, this kills a saw as fast as anything can!
Most of all, cut some wood and have some fun with it!! Good luck and enjoy!

I guess that leaves me out:taped:
Congrats bobc.I second sawinredneck. My 026 always got stihl oil, regular plug and filter changes and ring then a piston thena ring and so on when the power started dropping off alittle and a good compressed air cleaning now and again. It lasted me almost 15 yrs and was still going strong when I traded it last week.Have fun:cheers:

I never said that I didn't like the 260, I actually do, but there are better saws out there. The Husky 55 is not one of them, imo - so just be happy with the 260.........:D

Congratulations! You will love the MS260, my 026 is still one of my favorite saws. Every time I refill the tank I pop the air filter cover and wipe off some of the dust from the filter. These saws dirty the filter in a hurry, really my only complaint. If you are sawing green wood it isn't as much of a problem but dry hardwood creates more dust and clogs that filter quickly.

Congrats, you will like your 260. One of the great legends in saws.
