almost there!

OK - I think I have it worked out now!

It will be between the 346xp and the Stihl 260 Pro.

Both these saws look very similar - weight is exactly the same, and the Husky puts out a bit more power, albeit at very high revs....longevity?

As usual, I can get the Husky at a good 'US' price, but the Stihl I cannot. I hope Stihl know what they're doing with this policy, as I can see Husky eating into their sales big time.......

So what do the experts think? Stihl or Husky? 346xp or 260pro?
:blob4:

I'm not one of the experts !!!!!
But since you already got a husky I would have gone with the 346xp due to the bar and chains are interchangeable.
But both are great saws !

For mostly 4" wood, there is little doubt in my mind - Husky 346xp is the KING for that size wood. ....
Stihl MS260 would also be good, but the old hero isn't really in the same class....
What I meant by the above comment on the 260 is that it has bad anti-vibe and air filter system.
In Europe it still has about the same max power output as the 346, but it doesn't perform as well at high rpms, which is important in small wood.

Don't take me wrong - I like the 260 also.....

Bernithebiker, bonjour

I would also recommend the 346 xp. The MS260 is a very good and robust saw, but the design is a little old. It may also be probably replaced soon by the MS 261, if the logic with the MS 361 and 441 is followed.

The 346 gets very good critics, and if it runs like my 242, it is a very fast saw.

Où est-ce que tu habite en France ?

Hi,

the 260 has a max rpm of 14000 (the same as my 460 according to Stihl) and depending on where you are and what your handbook says the 346XP has a max of 14200, 14500 or 14700. Mine is set to 14500 although it says 14200 in my handbook...

I prefer the 346Xp myself having used both. The outboard clutch can be a pain but then again the air filter on the 260 is also a real pain too. The 346XP is real quick revving up but the 260 has better quality bars and chain (as I said I have used both).

The 260 has a carb compensator, which it really needs but the 346XP has a better air filter system to make up for it.

Bye

You are right about the bars, but they are also much more expensive.

You can use whatever brand of chains that you want on both saws, but local availability will of course vary a bit.

You can see it here;

There are quite a few pics of the grounds which show some of the large trees and the accursed laurel!!:angry2:
OK 346xp it is I reckon, looks like they go for about $400.
Thanks for help!

Might well consider to plan my holidays at brittany one of these years. Mostly, I am real keen on the Provence area. :)

Hi,

this may seem like a stupid question but are you french? I was wondering because of your very good English, you know how it is with France/England and French/English.

Just wondering.

Bye

That's actually a valid point - cooperating with French NATO offisers can be a nightmare, because of their mostly really bad English....
