Were you running the saw dull?..And was it running too lean?..I haven't had this happen on one of my husky's

I agree that the saw must have been run real hot, as I don't think they would have overlooked such a flaw in the design - the 455 has been out for a few years......

Was the spark arrest net clogged?
Did you clean it regularly?

There is no front outlet mufflers for this series of saws, as far as I can find out.

I only heard about this one time, but that guy took of the deflector ,,,
result = a clean hole through the top :)

This is my first time hearing about this problem with the 455/460. I have sold many of these saws, but not had this complaint before. What was your fuel mix? Have you checked your RPM with a tach (Is the carburetor too lean)? Were you pushing on the saw to make it cut?

If the saw is still under warranty (I assume it is) you should talk to your dealer to see if he will get you a new top cover and help you identify the heating problem. If there is a defect in the saw Husqvarna should be made aware of it. If they start to get warranty claims submitted for new top covers they will soon investigate this themselves.

I had a 455 for a while and the plastic wasn't even discolored or anything along those lines. I'm with everyone else on this, sounds like it was running WAY to lean.

saw ??????????

pm on
the saw came from a as sponsor. the saw is as sent to me except minor adjustment i did because the fuel line was had a pin hole in the line. the tech sent me the fuel line . the saw melt the top cover in less the 10 minutes of use. i aint worried about the warranty just would like to find a differnt muffler. if i can not get this piece of krudy tin can excuse for a muffler changed then i will have to use the plasma torch to modify it .:blob2: :blob2: :bang:

i too have sold lots of these saws. i would have to agree with hard knocks

I'm wondering if someone at some time removed the muffler and didn't properly reseat it when the reinstalled it. Unless the saw was left out in the elements for years and the muffler rusted out I'm at a loss to figure out how this could happen from looking at the parts manual. Where did the hot exhaust come from?

I'm curious because I have a 55 and two 359's which are similar in construction. I don't mess with muffler mods. I'm not a pro so a couple extra minutes a day making chips isn't a big deal for me.

Let us know what you found. Okay?

My new 359, with a non-cat muffler installed before it ever ran, and factory adjusted carb (runs great, starts easy, plug shows plenty rich mixture,) has scorched the edge of the cover slightly. Clearly the top exhaust outlet lets heat build up there. The saw is still on break-in, so I have never run it in the cut for over a minute. Just poor design if you ask me. The aluminum heat shield on the cover should extend all the way to the edge, or there should be more clearance. JMO as a mechanical engineer.

edit to add: Love the saw otherwise, and it's not a major issue, just irksome that I have a scorched edge on my cover

Check the exhaust gasket. I have seen new saws out of the box with the exhaust gasket out of place. This can shoot exhaust straight up towards the top cover. I'd also be real careful if you plan on modifying a cat muffler. The chemical in there isn't friendly to your lungs.

Here is what I do on all my saw's, and this help a bit whit the heat from the muffler on any saw.

Husky did that for me, and most likely Dubai Vol too.
The $20 tachometer being sold by Amick's is great. How it works without a complete circuit is FM but it works!
