In the process of going through my Husky 55. The question is , how does the chain oiler pick up oil from the tank? I see the screen for the oil pump sicking into the tank but it's 1/2 way up the side of the tank. Does it only get oil when the saw is on it's side? Or am I missing something. There doesn't seem to be any pickup down at the bottom of the tank. It works fine. I just want to know how it does it.
Thanks
Steve

I don't think he was saying that he wanted to fix anything. I think he is just curious as to how the saw gets to the oil that is sitting down below the pickup tube. (If it even does). If I had to guess myself, I would say that it does not pull oil from the very bottom because that is where the majority of the sediment is going to be that has collected over time. So if it draws oil a few inches from the bottom, it would always be drawing clean oil..???? THats just me taking a stab at it. I am curious about the same thing. I have noticed it and often wondered about it. ANyone???

oil pickup works the same as gas, hose extends into oil tank with a screen on the end. It flops around to whatever side is down.Where it comes through the case it forms a seal with the back of the oil pump housing.--frank

Sorry. No hose. The screen sticks right on the end of the oil pump inlet rubber seal and extends into the tank about 1/4 inch. or is the saw missing a piece of hose?

Sblckwd, got a new 55 here...hose in it like bandmiller described if thats any help to ya...only problem l've had with it is the oil hole in the bar plugs with sawdust...got to remove and clean every time l refill gas...

Sblckwd - I'm not familiar with the 55 Rancher, but if the pickup hose exits the oil tank thru a rubber grommet & continues to the oil pump, what may have happened is simply the hose got jerked 1/2 way out of the tank.

Try gently pulling/pushing the hose with a needle nose pliers to get it extended back down to the tank bottom.
