I need a new bar and chain for a husky 61 saw I bought. Called the local husky dealer and asked if he had any in stock. He asked how old the saw is and I said It's either an 83 or an 89.... I can't remember. he told me it was so old his parts books don't list it. I asked if he could order it and he told me he wouldn't be able to because he doesn't have any info on the saw. Is this a normal experience? I figured I'd give the local guy some business, but in 30 seconds all I could get was "no" for an answer. I didn't think it was an old saw, but I guess his definition of old and mine are very different.

Standard Husqvarna large saw bar mount
It is an Oregon D009 mount
Your experience is normal only when dealing with the incompetent and or the lazy

I called back today with a list of other saws that the bar will fit and basically got the same thing.... My goodness. I have to call back this afternoon and talk to the real parts guy.

Find a new shop or buy from one of the sponsors here. You deserve better treatment then that.

Just ask them for a bar and chain for a 372 and don't even explain to him why, the guy doesn't sound very smart. Just so you know, Husky has used the same large mount for almost 40 years.

Hmm,this guy got the wrong job,he should know that almost by heart because its a popular mount or find it quite easily.I give you the Oregon part # 168RNDD009,the first two digit gives the length, this one is a Powermatch one wit a removable tip.If you want the Prolite ,its #168SLHD009.

You deserve better! They do not deserve your business. Find another dealer or local small engine repair shop. Anybody with an Oregon, Carlton, ect. catalog can look that up in a snap. It is dealers like this that give us all a bad name. Hopefully he goes out of business before he does too much damage to the product lines that he carries.

Just out of curiosity, did the guy follow his "your saws to old" with a "let me sell you a new one"???? He might of been pulling your leg on purpose to make a sale. I have a hard time believing that anyone who owns/works a dealership doesn't know how to find a bar for a modern (yes, I said modern) Husqvarna.

Saws that use the same bar

61, 261, 266, 268, 272, 365, 371, 372, 285, 298, 1100, 2100, 2101,181, 281, 288, 385, 394, 395, 3120

And... the other 100 saws I left out (large Jonsered's, and some Homelites also)

Oh yea, also the Dolmar/Makita's (6400, 6401, 7300, 7301, 7900, 7901) and probably a bunch more

more -- husky 280, 380, 480

I guess you could spend all day doing this.

My Husky dealer is little better than that. They only stock small mount bars, but recently got a large mount bar to put on the wall. I have an IPL and tell them the part I want. They are nice people, but completely worthless when it comes to saws. It's a farm supply store that has saws as a sideline.

But, in your situation, I would just order it from Bailey's at this point. You will have it in a couple of days, and with a lot less heartache. Get an IPL (illustrated parts list) and help your poor dealer out when you need something. It works for me. I even do that with my Stihl dealer anymore. They like it when I hand them a printed copy of the IPL with the parts I need highlighted.

My Husky dealer is an old logger, and anytime anyone brings in an old saw he will go out of his way to find parts for it. No upselling , no pressure. I have a lot of respect for him.

There are a lot of dealers out there that don't understand their products all to well. In their defense most are not just "saw" shops but sell a myriad of equipment and I imagine it's hard to keep up with it all. That's what I like about this forum. If I want to know something about my saw there are plenty of folks (some dealers) that can steer you in the right direction. An I appreciate them for their service. I like being well informed before I go to a dealers store to ask for something. *Ramble* I went to my local steal dealer, a rental company, to get a new bar, chain, sprocket, and bearing for a friend's old 028AV. He said he didn't have the sprocket in stock, needed the serial number of the saw to get the correct one. $16 or $36 depending on the serial number. He advised against a rim system and stated I didn't need a new bearing. These items have never been replaced on this saw. I wasted my time going to this guy and just ordered everything I needed from Baily's at half the price. (they sent me a 3/8 inch pitch rim instead of the requested
.325 rim though) *ramble off* I'm trying to get to 50 post too, but don't have nuthin' to sell. :)
