I have a 61 (practica) project saw and was checking the compression. I have a reading of 145psi . I have done a search of the service manual and this site and can find nothing on the Huskys service limits. Anyone have this information??
Thanks
Bob.

145 psi is OK. When it gets under 110-120 psi it is time to service.

I see you have a Sthil in your bunch of Husqvarnas including a 61. There is a thread on now, in AS, about the MS280 and I was wondering if you had any experience with it and how it would compare to the 61. The 61 is a little over a lb on the MS and I would think it has way more power but then I have not run an MS280.

The 61 has about 0.5 more horsepower. I have not used a 280, so I don't know about it , but the 61 makes good power low and into the midrange. Not really a screamer. But don't confuse the 61 with the 61 rancher. The rancher was older, heavier, and had less power. My 61 is a late model.

I only have the one Stihl, which has not impressed me, but I have found out that the 021 isn't the best saw to base my opinion on. I am looking for an 044 to fix up and put to the test.:D

That is very true, but the ol' Husky 61 doesn't have much more power than a MS280, even if it is a recent production one (.2kW or so...)

Specifications data can give a person a good, general guideline but there is no substitute for hands on .. in the field results. And since many people consider the MS280 a good saw, I was hoping to get someone who has this hands on experience with the two saws, to give us a comparison of the two.

Husqvarna 61's and the rest of the family have a proven track record of over 30 years and there are many that are still working. So I was wanting to know from someone who has used both, to tell us how they compare. The 61 is a little heavier than the MS280 but has more cc's... so it is possible that there may be not be a comparison.

I have two 61s and two MS 280s. Don't need anywhere near that many but you know you kind of get this affliction. The 61 is hands down faster than the MS 280. Alot faster...but the 280 is much more user friendly (way less vibration, decomp, lighter and still a strong running and reliable saw). If I had to pick between the two I would probly not. Different enough to have them both. The MS 361 replaces the power/speed of the Husky 61 and then some. Maybe that's the only saw I need in this category...but then there is that affliction thing.;)

I know about the "Affliction".... I too am afflicted!...too many saws! and still looking at the saws on ebay!...CRAZY!... I need an AA for the "Affliction"....hahaha..Right now I am trying to use self control and not buy any more saws ... for awhile.... at least until I can get some running and sold.

Thank you for your evaluation of the two saws...you only learn these things when you hold them in your hands and let them rip!
