I called Husky tech. service the other day to get a part number for a brass oiler worm gear and the tech. happened to mention the retail price of $36 and change. I went to the local dealer to order and he charged $40 plus shipping plus tax. Came to over $44. Huh? In fact he saw my price written and said "where did you get that from?" I said it was from Husky but they must have forgotten to include extra dealer markup in suggested retail price - no response from him.

Last Fall I went to a different Husky dealer in a town 20 miles away for an air filter (same saw). After forking out over $20 I noticed as I walked out he had crossed out (with a pen) the pre-printed price of $17 on the factory sealed package and wrote $20 with a pen. Huh?

I spoke to Husky tech. service again today about the oiler gear and happened to mention the overcharge. He seemed to indicate some knowledge of dealers doing this.

Anybody with similar experience?

Are you meaning higher than retail? If so yes. I used to do it and unless they are a big Husky dealer they almost have to. A lot of the time you only get a few parts at a time and the shipping kills you, two husky is not too good as far as margins on parts. If you can sell as saw for full list then yes, but when can you do this? You have to be in the dealers shoes to know why. He should have the knowledge to tell you though. I often put my price list in front of people when I got this reaction so then would see I was not trying to cheat them. I did do this on consistant customers, but I did on the happy homeowner. You had to pay for yourself to answer all the how do you questions. Shops go in and out of business all the time. Being the guy with all the deals sometimes gets you in trouble. Especially when you had shipping to contend with. If you order gobs of parts from them then then shipping has no bearing. I just didn't, I pushed stihl.
