Whilst chatting with a dealers son yesterday he mentioned an old Husky that I might find interesting.
He brought out an old power head that was about the size of a 271 and the nameplate was marked " Husqvarna TOMOS made in YOUGOSLAVIA" Model--L
the numbers had worn away.
I seem to recall seeing one before as a young fella and have had a look on Mike's site to no avail so any one got a history for us ? Thanks.

My L65 is a Swede....

My L77 is also a swede. But that doesn't mean they didn't make some in yugoslavia to.

Sure, nothing contradictory in that!

This happed to some other (newer) Husky models as well, but I don't believe it happened in exactly the same way.......

It also was a Political desition by the infamous, US hating, Swedish Prime Minister Olof Palme, and not Huskys idea, as far as I know.

Mmm My L65 - Swedish but had heard that some were made by Tomos - manufactures of mopeds and outboard motors in the former Yugoslavia!

Spud

That is how it was, because the infamous Olof Palme wanted to support commie countries industry at the time........:censored:

This was when the commie dictator Tito ruled in Yugoslavia.

It was not Olof Palme's decision to do this.
Sure the politicians had a finger in it, but it was much lower in hiraky.
Keep in mind we had same deals with other products in most of Europe and North Amerika.
It is trade off's, you scratch my back I scratch yours.

There is a HUGE differance between Socialistic thinking that Olof P stood for and Communism.

Husqvarna got their share out of this as well as other company's here did.
Later it was Dolpima, now it is china...

Tomos got to assemble these saws for Husqvarna so they could build new here, once assembly was over some saws were made in Tomos name, but this was in mid 70's so they were very out dated and sales no good at all.
Most parts for the 65 was made here all thru life of model.

Last of 65 series were sold in US.

Marshall tito, head of the udba, was worse than Stalin.

There are several versions of the 65.
The early ones have rektangular decal instead of round.
The 65 came out in '66 as there was some issues with first version.
First version had point of weight too high and some other problems. This never left factory.
Second version is the 65A and forward.
Last version is the ones with round decal.
I think all of these are assembled in Tomos factory.
Not all were labled Tomos, though...

Yugoslavian chain saws were not the only thing. The Egyption Hakim rifle I beleive was made under license from Sweden. It is essentially the same as the Lungeman AG42. Although the Lungeman was 6.5mm and the Hakim was 8mm.
