I have noticed that parts for saws are quite expensive. Has anybody here priced a saw if it was assembled using parts at retail cost. I have seen this data on car/trucks but not on saws.
What about you bwalker?
I bet it close to $10,000 U.S. (Just Kidding!)

I wouldnt doubt it,lol. The company I work for makes fuel filtration devices and sytems for the auto industry. We sell most of our filters for around 65 cents. GM turns a round and sells them for 5-$15. Its just the nature of the beast.

Yes, if you could part out a new saw and sell all of the parts at full
retail, you could make a fortune. Many times, when the repair
and parts would be high, I would sell him a new unit without a
bar, chain, sprocket cover, etc., at a much reduced price.

Then put his old bar, chain, etc on. The customer has
practically a new saw, usually cheaper than repairing the
old one.

Fish, I see the possibilities now! customer 1 powerhead, customer 2 carb, customer 3 oiler, customer 4 bar/sprocket/clutch/chain, customer 5 pull starter, Customers 6 thru 40 misc parts.

Wow with the correct purchase of new saws and a good flo of customers it might work!!!

new parts saws

We actually did that for the first ten years. Got at least 3 times return. Stayed with pro saws, 064,066,056, etc.
Seems like there was a lot more breakage then. It was nothing to take in a crunched saw at 5 pm and have it ready by 8 pm for the next day. Either the cutters have learned to cut more carefully or just buy a new saw now.

Bwalker,

I observed similar pricig disparities. We built automotive air bag units; the control modules went to the carmakers in the $50 range. You can only imagine what they sell for when you have a bang-up and have to replace one. Eight hundred dollars, I heard.

The $700 Cat engine control modules go retail for about $5000 I have heard.
