I'm sure Stihl does it across model lines. Does sharing parts make a 'pro' saw a 'homeowner' saw simply because they may share some part designs?

If it's a trigger or a brake flag, no...if it's a case or a crank, yes. The 660 and the 290 likely share the same trigger and bar studs, but they don't share much beyond that.

Well, it appears that the sapsucker has decided to cast himself in the roll of professor of saw history for AS. While he attempts to write with an authorative flair, his post unfortunately follows his usual pattern of being filled with errors, yet void of facts.

He attempts to support his erroneous conclusions with one of his silly links. But as THALL points out, this is, like most of sap's points, incorrect.

And yes sappy, some Husky's are indeed based on Poulan. And I am a Husky dealer, so I know. The 137 and 142 models, while not simply being rebadged, are essentially poulans. A comparison of key part numbers will prove this fact.

You see sap, that is what is called "discovery" in the legal profession. Finding out the facts before you open your big mouth in court or in this case, posting on AS, and continuing to make a fool out of yourself.

But you never seem to have the time to trouble yourself with gathering facts, do you? You are still too busy fighting your rear guard action against dealers in general, and Stihl in particular, because of your life altering experience with your cracked MS390.

Have you considered therapy?

Spike I'm glad you noticed I didn't make issues over brands. I myself could care less who uses what. I got a Echo sitting on my bench aside a Husky and even though I have no parts for either one I will attempt to getem going. Soon I'm picking up a Husky 3120 for 300.00 from a guy that I know well so as you can see brand means squat to me. Sap on the other hand well he's my friend, I like Sap. They say one of the best things a man can do in life is share his wisdom and knowledge with others that don't have such wisdom and knowledge, such as the case with Sap. Sap is a fierce guard of his brand of saw. So fierce he tends to stretch the truth about 40 miles to defend his turf. He didn't bother to look to see if Viking even makes a saw, they don't that I know of, if they do I'm sure Sap will inform me. I guess he feels since he got a crack in his MS390 the whole company must be going downhill and out of business and he wants everyone to know. Most take the Forrest Gump approach when something like that occurs, its called schit happens. No big deal, life goes on. For Sap though it must be the worst thing that ever happened in his life. I'm sure one day when they put ole Sap away the preacher will say ya know this man once bought a saw that cracked on him and it was of all saws a Stihl. I'm sure the family will go home in total shock and disbelif, not because Sap is gone but because they heard about that saw. I've been waiting for a movie to come out about it called Sap and the Crack. Can't wait to buy the DVD. I will give Sap credit for one thing though, he knows the facts. He doesn't always say them but he knows them. Ask him , he'll tell ya he does. Ask him if Stihl is having another banner year is sales, 18th in a row and he'll say we'll thats because my 390 cracked on me, they still going downhill. See he knows the facts. What he doesn't know is others do too. When I get my 3120 Husky I hope it doesn't crack on me for I sure hate to wind up with crack syndrome like Sap has. Poor ole feller got a case of crack syndrome so bad I just wanna hold him and pat him on the back to ease his pain. His pain is so bad I can even feel it here in Virginia. Yup I feel it in my lungs right now, nope wait a minute, thats from laffing.............

I found it interesting that Viking uses Briggs & Stratton engines on their lawn mowers.

LOL! That's funny. On my 137 it says on the metal tag "Parts made in Sweden", "Assembled in USA".

Companies sharing parts design across product lines is simply economy of scale. Car manufacturers have been doing it for years, for example.

You guys really need to get out more.

By the way...McCulloch is not owned by Electrolux.

"In October 1999, McCulloch's North American operation was purchased by Jenn Feng Industrial Co., Ltd, a Taiwan based manufacturer. A new headquarters/distribution facility, located in Tucson, was also acquired and the company moved in November 1999."

How bout I give you a ORANGE POULAN, hmmmmmm. Oh shoot you already got one of those, damn. Durn Sap all I can give ya is my profound sincere and utmost apoligy. If so thats cool, livems up the place and hell I got no problem what so ever messin with Sap. He's a bird of a different feather for sure. I keep telling him he's my friend but he never responds to that damn his orenry hide, lol

my thoughts on the husky vs stihl debate.. use them both and have more toys to play with.. why argue when you could be playing with saws?

How's about you just send me that 3120 and you're forgiven. And just to show you that I don't hold grudges, go ahead and throw in a MS361 too.

By the way...I've already got a green Poulan...and that poor little saw takes all the abuse I've thrown at it in the past 7 or 8 years...and it's still going strong. Right now I'm using it to dig out the stump of an 80' liquidambar. Poor thing.

Damn Sap you don't want much do ya. Tell ya what I'll do. I know you is a tight ole sucker, so I'll just sell ya the 3120 for what I paid for it, you pay the shipping. Hows that. See Sap I got so many saws I could care less. Now a new 3120 is about what 1300.00-1400.00. So now you can get a good used one for 300.00. I've looked it over and its in good shape. Now you gotta do something too fore I sell it to ya. Admit to everyone on here you just love this back and forth stuff. Come on, don't lie about it, you eat it up. No way you stirr the pot like you do for the heck of it, you enjoy it, admit it and you got a deal on the 3120. The 361 is out the question. You might fall in love with that thing and surely you don't wanna eat crow the rest of ya life. Now spill the beans and admit your sitting there laffing your head off and the Husky is yours for 300.00.

also Sap

Forgot to mention, it has a 48 inch bar on it. That will surely mill any tree you wanna fool with..

I could be mistaken, but I was under the impression that e-lux bought the European rights to the McCulloch name.

Sap is your buddy or pal..LOL

Sap is ma frend. I knew the him when he was just a young man. He was a smart man then too. How smart, well let me tell ya. He had a brother named Cap who was about a 19 years older than him. They went up in the hills one day hunting turkey. On the way back home they was walking down this old country road and came upon a sheep with his head stuck bewteen the boards of a board fence. (Now your gonna see Sap was smart here.) Cap saw the stuck sheep and ran up behind it and well you know what Cap was doing. He got done and said ok brother Sap your turn. Sap looked at the sheep and the fence and said I don't think my head will fit between those boards. See now tell me Sap wasn't a smart feller way back then. He grew to be one of the smartest saw men in da world and his favorite line is never beleive what any sheep tells ya...............

The husky distributor certainly is the guy that moves McCulloch down here. He insists that they are made by Husqvarna (!!?) and visually they are a Poulan with different coloured plastic.

Everyone thinks their saw is the best on the planet. Sap seems to think that just because he bought a 137 and a 455R they must be the best saws on the planet, bar none.

What makes a saw good? It all depends on the job at hand. In terms of power, my 180<034AV<750VL<288xp. In terms of solid build, my 180<034AV<288xp<750VL. In terms of street cred 180<750VL<034<288xp :). Run life maybe 180<034<288xp<750VL?

On that basis you'ld imagine the 180 would never get used. Far from it. It is the best tool in my lineup for certain jobs. Nobody's dropping huge redwoods with 180s, but they are a nice light limbing saw. Much like the 137. After 100-200 hours of running they'll both be ready for the trash heap. Before then they'll have earnt their keep.

Do you know which parts, Sap? Certainly not all of them, because if that were the case, they would send over the whole saw all put together wouldn't they? Wouldn't really make all that much economic sense to send all of the parts of their least expensive saw to be assembled in the USA would it? By the way sap, where in the USA do you suppose that they would be assembling those saws? Do ya think that maybe it is the POULAN factory? That may not be a fair question on my part; asking you if you think.

You know Sap, now that you are becoming a celebrity of sorts here, you need to have a title that fits you. Should we be calling you Mr. Sap? Doctor Sap? His royal highness emperor Sap? I think that the way you continue to preach anainst Stihl, that we should call you Reverend. Yup, thats it! The Reverend Mr. Sap!

By the way, exactly what kind of Sap are you covered in? And how did it happen? Is it really sap? Maybe it has something to do with that time your brother asked you to stick your head in the fence.

Hey, I was wondering if you took part in todays illegal alien protest. Not that your from Mexico, but I think people who came from outer space were also invited. That was a dirty trick when that ship dropped you off and said they would be right back, but I guess your probably not very popular on your home planet either, are you?
