When I blow or suck on the tank I sense no venting. How does one remove the tank vent? I see a black bushing with those metal vents that look like a bunch of wire. Is it pressed in? Screwed in?

Prior owner says saw would run then stop. I believe it was a project for him which was not investigated further before I bought it from him. Blocked vent seems like a probable cause. There was plenty else it needed so I never started it.

Use a deep socket wrench to remove it. The tank vent unscrews. That's how I do it.
I can see no flats for an Allen wrench but I did get one to sort of bite enough to make it spin, it certainly didn't seem to unscew. So I got stern with it and a pick. I extracted a little light colored pellet. With it removed the tank does vent.

Looking into the black bushing it appears to be a long tube. How do I get THAT out? Or do I need to? Haven't looked to see if this little pellet/filter is available separately.

Disregard. I got it out. Lightly threaded a coarse screw into the bore and yanked it out with a pair of pliers. No threads, just press-fit. Now I know what to order. That list keeps growing.....

Weary of throwing $$$at this thing, I soaked the pellet filter element in brake cleaner, then scuffed front and back face on some sandpaper, and I can now draw air through the black straw.

That may be all that it needed, but I must admit that I have not run into this with any Husqvarna saw that I own or have serviced for others. Several Stihls on the other hand have fuel filters that have clogged up or fallen off left and right. Usually they are much easier to fix than what you ran into here. Good thread, ChillyB.

I can't imagine plugging a fuel line filter except maybe junk 2-stroke oil and garnished fuel, but this little VENT filter pellet seems to have plugged with schmooze. I don't know how well it SHOULD breathe, but it's better than before. Once cleaning the pellet and reinstslling, I put the filter back into brake cleaner and drew on it like Cruella DeVille, then blew it back out a few times. A chainsaw likely doesn't draw fuel very fast.

Brake cleaner tastes different from what I expected. Not bad, really.

I've used the HLS version, or one like it. You can reach inside the tank with a pair of long needle nose pliers and push the whole assembly right out.

That's what I was hoping for but not on this tank. The vent "straw" is housed in a long tunnel that must have an opening somewhere high on the left side. There is nothing to see, nothing to grab.
