I am just finishing a rebuild on a 395xp and have some concerns about the flywheel side crank seal. I haven't been able to locate a service manual for the 395, but have a manual for the 394. It says to recess the seal 5mm from the outer machined edge of the case. This seems rather deep. Does anyone have any good info on this, or better yet pictures of a properly installed seal.

husky saws often require countersinking the seal depths to prevent the flywheel
from digging into the seal .My 181se lists 3.5 mil below pocket

I don't know about the 395xp, but I had to replace the flywheel side crank seal in a Stihl 046. It failed because it was not installed deep enough and the flywheel wore away the outer edge of the metal outer jacket and then it started leaking.
