Found this guy at my local pawn shop a few months ago. Ran and oiled okay, but compression was a little low (about 130). Decided to completely tear it down, run everything through my parts washer (my wife calls it the dishwasher, haha) and go through it. No scoring at all, but rings seemed a little soft. So I put a new Meteor piston and rings in it. Here's a list of the new parts (all oem except piston/rings): gasket set, crank seals, impulse line, fuel line and filter, air filter, chip guard, guide plates, decals, tank vent, and carb kit. The crank bearings were nice and tight, so I reused those. I pressure/vac tested to 7 psi/14 inches vac, no leaks. After deleting the base gasket, squish was 0.026. Compression is now right at 150, with about 10 minutes run time. So I expect that will go up a little as the rings seat. Oiler is definitely not stingy, 3/4 turn out was almost too much for the 24" bar. I tuned it a little rich with a tach at 12,000 for breaking in the piston. The 24" bar is 58 gauge; the chain had been rocked when I got the saw. I hand-filed it enough to get it to cut, but it's still pretty sorry. Needs some grinder work to get the rest of the damage off. The heated handles work great. The only issue I could find with the saw after running it a little is I think it probably needs new clutch springs. The chain seems to run on a little too long after idling the saw. Not bad, but not perfect either. Looking to get $575 shipped to the 48. Only trades I might be interested in would be a super minty ms361. thanks20140525_185212.jpg 20140525_185328.jpg20140525_185315.jpg

Pictures did turn out really well. I'd almost be inclined to say the pictures are better than the real deal. There are lots of scratches all over, and a fellows name scratched into the filter cover plastic and carb base plastic. And I sprayed it down with Armor-all type stuff after it came out of the dishwasher. So it might not look quite so sharp after the shine wears off, but should be a good runner.:)

Yep, If I had not just drained Ass National Bank on a 562 I would have already saved you from the torment of having to watch this sale. Would make a great stump saw. I'm glad there is not a video of it running. To hear it might be more than I can take... ;)

I like that. Heated handles for milling in the winter too. You don't need a fresh rebuilt 385 do you?

Just the sound of a 394/5 sitting there idling is enuff to raise your pulse rate, heavens to betsy when you set the dogs and turn her loose!!! Kinda like the first time you roll some little gal around in the seat of your pick-up; it's something you NEVER forget!
