Had some unexpected events concerning the 395, thought I'd update the thread. After getting confirmation from ChadS that he wanted the saw, I went out to the shop to go ahead and start boxing it up. Thought I'd take 15 minutes and look the saw over really close one last time before packaging to make sure it was good to go. I had the recoil cover off to blow out the chips, when I noticed that I could wiggle the flywheel ever so slightly and hear a little play in the crank. It was a faint tapping type noise like a slightly loose bearing. When I had the crank out, I had checked the big end bearing and couldn't detect any up and down play by hand and it rotated smoothly around the crank. Decided to pull the top end off and check it out. The piston pin/bearing was nice and tight, but I discovered that if I wiggled the rod just right up and down, I could hear very small amount of play in the lower rod bearing. I took it to a saw shop tech that I trust and he confirmed it. He said if I continued to run the saw eventually the metal race would probably come apart and the bearings would make a mess of the top and bottom end. Absolutely disgusted over it. What amazes me is the saw ran so good. I didn't hear any strange noises while running, and it's a strong runner. I informed Chad of what I found, and he has decided to pass on the saw (understandably, I would too). I've got too much money into the saw now to not fix it, so I think I'll order an aftermarket crank from the weedeaterman and split the cases again. Probably go ahead and put new crank bearings in while I've got it apart. Don't want to go through this again. Anyway, curious if anybody has any experience with the aftermarket cranks from the weedeaterman site. I imagine they probably pretty good quality, but wondering if anyone had any feedback. I'll probably list the saw again in the trading post after I get it back together. But it will probably take me while to get it together and I'll probably run it for a few months after to make sure everythings okay.
