Husqvarna 51 rpm issue solved

I bought this as a non runner and put in a new piston and it just would not rev up. Maybe 6000 rpm max. I put a new am carb to see if that helped but no joy. Someone suggested the muffler screen could be clogged but it looked fine. I took off the muffler and it screamed! I took off the screen and behind was what looked like a chunk of old black foam rubber? Cleaned that out, put it back together and now it runs great! Yay!

Make sure you clean that muffler out good, you don't want anything getting back into the top end and destroying your hard work.

The chunk of old black foam rubber is new to me. Are you saying it is in the muffler?
Nice looking 51 glad you got it working.

was in muffler just underneath the screen. Removed screen and there was no opening. Just a black chunk that I pulled out with a pick. No idea how it would have got in there. Maybe from some nesting insect?
