my big bore kit does have a decomp.... but i have it capped off. not really useful for me atleast

I'd like to hear more of the big bore for this model? More curios than anything else.
I plugged all except one of mine that likes to eat starter parts.
It's the least ran for that reason.

All mine are 46 mm. Like I said earlier the smaller jug 51 was the best runner I had.

I don't know why they are calling it a big bore. It says 46mm. That's what the 55 saws are. The only way it would be a big bore is if you put it on a 50 or 51.

ok, i was mistaken. it was a Big bore kit for mine since it started out as a 50.

Be interesting to compare. I had not heard of this before.

Ah I just noticed the price.
I've tried those, (but not that brand) and have much better luck with used OEM.
These little saws have served me very well.

Used OEM jug, Meteor piston, Caber rings,( Meteor only comes with Caber rings ). Meteor doesn't make a 51closed port piston, last I checked.

Me too, I am partial to them. The 50 was my very first saw back in 86. It has cut tons of wood. Still have it and use it once in a while.

The pre/non rancher op cylinders came with a decomp.

My other three Husky 55 saws are non-Rancher's. All have decomp valves. I assumed they are all closed port. I'll have to look them over better to confirm if they are OP or CP.
I suppose somebody out there has drilled and tapped a cylinder for a decomp valve. Could not find anything on Youtube though.

.

I've owned two 51's, at least half a dozen 55's both OP and CP.

I currently have a mint condition 50 Special but don't use it. I sent both 51's and all the OP 55's on down the road. They are OK for firewood cutting and have a smooth/broad/flat power curve. A bit "lackluster" in performance but good enough for firewood cutting, and 51/55's are a professional design aside maybe the crank driven oil pump set-up.

The 55 CP models are noticeably stronger in the cut but the power range is "peaky" in comparison to the OP models. They LOVE high RPM's and make great power for the CC's. If you can obtain an OEM P/C in good shape that makes optimum compression you will not be disappointed in the final product.

Personally I don't use, recommend or have much faith in aftermarket P/C's for those saws. They may be OK, but absolutely and for sure if you outfit yours with a factory P/C it's good for decades of hard use provided you know how to tune and don't develop an air leak and lean it out......FWIW......Cliff

Old thread I know, but I just put a 46mm top end on modded by JK Saw Shop. Open port with porting and the Stihl piston. I have only had about half a tank though it but it definitely has more pull. The compression is way up on what it was. I will be interested to see how it goes after a few tanks, as I was already a big fan of my stock 55. I run a 22 inch bar with .325. If you want to see what JK does he has a Youtube channel
