Whoah. Is this little black rubber block DIRECTIONAL?! Has an almost imperceptible teardrop depression that would steer the oil up toward the oiling slot.

And yeah, now would be the time except I have one open saw on my table right now. So this is just a look-see, clean a little, assess. And I’ve not changed seals so I’ll need to do some study first, and get parts here in advance of the job.

Pick-up screen in tank clogged or in the pick-up line maybe? Clogged tank vent?
Maybe. I pulled the suction and screen. They’re clear but it was worth piling to hose the slime off the pickup screen. Thanks for the tip.

I lip-locked the vent and could blow air through it.

Cleaned up pretty well. Damage to te brake band seems like not a big deal. He gronked on the cover with band engaged, shoved the band back into the plastic cover, which got hot and melty. I Dremeled the burr off the band and it’s not dragging. Probably wasn’t good for the clutch, bearing, or seal.

I don’t think this saw has a lot of hours on it. It was garage-dirty, not woods-dirty. Lots of paint on the magnesium. Haven’t done any real work except to clean and inspect. Filled tank with oil. Tomorrow I’ll know if it stays there.

So for I’m happy to have handed over $125 for it. Soaked the chain in bar oil, cleaned up spare bar, we’ll see if it holds an edge. I’ll get a new chain since the bar was smoked and tank was empty, but this one will serve for testing.

Is this burn typical of all 55 or is something out of sorts here? Looks like muffler was designed to melt this spot.
