correct dating of huskeys

the way to tell the year of an older saw is 70's are white top, 80's are black tops, and 90's are orange tops. the first number of the serial number is the last diget of the year. and the next two numbers of the serial number is the weeks into the year it was made. so my first three numbers are 619 so since it has a orange top it is 90's the first number is 6 so it is a 96. it was made 19 weeks into the year 1996 so it would be the second week in may of 1996. any saws made past 2000 will have the first two numbers of the serial number are the last two digets of the year it was made and the third and 4th numbers of the serial number will be the weeks into the year it was made.

That is quite inaccurate, and will cause to some wrong conclutions - it actually isn't that simple.

If the number tag is "silver", the saw isn't newer than 1986, unless there is reference to Yugoslavia or Slovenia on the tag.

that's what it said on the official Husqvarna website.

I have never seen something like that on Huskys website - regardless it is too inaccurate.

White top 61s were made well into the 1980s. I believe the change from black/gray to orange happened around 1990 - but it doesn't really tell much anyway, as you never know what color top a used saw originally had.

The safest clue is the number plate, including the color of the plate (silver/black), the arrangement of the numbers, and some times even the text.

The change from ywwxxxx to yy wwxxxxx (note one x more) didn't happen "past 2000", but from around 1999 week 18 (I don't know the exact week yet). Black tag saws made from 1997 up to that time in 1999 had the full year on the tag in addition to the serial number, to distinguish them from those made 10 years earlier.

I'd like to see picture of the saw in question, including a close up of the number tag...

I know nothing about serial numbers vs. production time of lawn mowers.

My husquvarna 154se has the year stamped into the tag.

That pic is a bit unclear (I don't see the last digit ) - but they used to do that briefly around 1983/84, before they incorporated the last digit of the year into the serial number itself. Before that, the system(s) lookes like a mess to me.....

So looking at an orange top 61 with a black ID tag, serial number 325xxxx would mean 1993 and 25th week, late June production. Right?
