Air brakes and a jake are the best set up for towing larger trailers. One of the problems with hydraulic brakes is lack of maintence. The fluid should be flushed every couple of years. Air brakes are much easier to adjust, and most people are to lazy to adjust hyd brakes. Micro locks bleed off. My neighbor lost a drill rig at 3 AM because the micro lock bled off and the truck went over a 20' bank. Both air and hyd brakes require regular inspections and maintence.
