If it's 50mm, it's an 044 kit. You could bolt it up to an 046, but it would take modifications. And why would you want to make it a small bore?
 
I sent him an e-mail last night and he said it can go either way - the stroke, everything is the same - he stated.
If its 52mm its an 046 if its 50mm its an 044 there is no both, correct. Unless of course you have lathe access and lost of time, right? I hope is was correct.
I simply replied that he was wrong.
 
It would be about the same as putting an 046 cylinder on an 044, but opposite. You'd have to machine the mounting holes diagonally outward, and the larger crankcase volume of the 046 would decrease velocity, thus decreasing performance more than just down to 044 level.
