I didn't buy a Rancher or Farm Boss.

After lurking for a time and actually using the search tool, I read everything I could find on buying the correct the saw for my needs. Of coarse, as a homeowner/firewood only saw user, I had looked at the affordable Rancher and Farm Boss. After reading every thread here I decided to buy a new 361, but I was having a problem justifying the $650.00 out the door cost. Then I searched Craigs list for a used one with no luck, so I made a short list of a few highly rated saws that would fit my needs and checked C/L every hour or so. I ended up with a Husky 365sp with a 25" bar, in very good shape for $200.00, this leaves enough for some good PPE and maybe another saw. I checked it out as discribed in other threads on this site and it passed with flying colors.

I cut the first cord (not all split yet) and it work great, smooth, good power, easy starting and not too heavy. I thank all of you for answering the many questions asked by others with very knowlegeable, experianced, accurate information.

In the past (80s) I've had bigger pro saws, I had one with a 36" bar for about 6 hours before it was stolen, it was only started once before I brought it home new. I had another big Husky that was stolen after a few years, so after that I bought a few cheapies and a couple of those were stolen also.

Now a question from me. I understand The piston and cylinder kits from the 372s fit this saw, so if this one does get tired, or I convince my self it is, is this the way to go? The Baily's kit for $109.00 seems like a good deal, so "IF" I did this, what else do I need to get to make it work?

Now I'm looking for a smaller saw and I need to read all the threads on that subject, more fun!!

Thanks again to all of you.

Welcome to the site Ondavr. That saw will work fine, don't bother "fixin" it now. Why do you need a smaller saw?

About three years ago I bought some land on a river, it had been a tree farm so I need to do thinning and clean up periodically and a smaller saw might be easier to use for the small stuff. Plus when we have big floods I end up with log jams near the water and trees and brush in the yard.

The neighbor has 60+ acres and has been using a track hoe and dozer to clean up the flood damage (huge log jams) from the floods last fall. He normally has 5 or 6 Stihls with him and according to him they're the only saw worth having. He said if I bought a Husky and he saw it, he would run it over (joking of coarse), so if my smaller Husky was to out perform a supposedly larger Stihl he would be very upset.

I really don't plan on doing any mods soon, but it sure seems like a nice, afforable option for this saw if repairs are needed.

Like I said, I checked it every hour, but it was more like every 15 minutes, when it came up I emailed, called and started driving that direction (Lake Stevens). First to call, first to show up, first money, all done in about an hour and then de-listed.

Welcome to AS, looks like you got a very good deal! :rockn: :rockn:

...and had done your homework.....;)

The 372 top will fit, but if your 365 carb is a Zama, you may need to change the carb also.........;)

SawTroll

Thanks to this site I knew which carb to look for. The owner was very surprised that I knew so many details about the saw and what to look for. When it came time to start it, he said he would do it because it may be a little hard to get going cold, but I said no, I'll do it. With the method recommended here it started on the first actual real pull, he was shocked.

I wouldn't worry about spare parts! Cheapstihlsawparts in Lake Stevens has stacks of 365 parts... very slow movers.

I'm jealous of your new saw. I have to admit I only have a 55 Rancher and a 359 but they do everything I ask of them. Glad your new saw worked so well. Welcome also. It sounds like you are very familar with the chain saw world.

Congrats on your 365 Sp. I bought a brand new one a month or so ago. Mine has a 20" b&c. Awesome saw. It'll do everything I need a saw to do.
If you want to change the top end to the 372, I'd talk to Freakingstang. He's done a few of them I believe. Good luck!

My only advice would be that you might want to buy a cable lock for this one! Apparently you have "Please Steal My Saw" written across your forehead. :hmm3grin2orange:
