But I just put a carb. kit in my 028 (impulse line also), and had a chance to sink it into some wood. The saw sounds fine and has alot of oomph out of the wood, but when it hits the wood reallly loses power. I'm sure it must be the carb. settings, but which should I adjust ???

Maybe the carb is too rich/lean. setting the Hand L screws to fully closed, then turn them both 1 turn out from closed, see how that works.

"028's great saws "

Woodtick, not sure if that's sarcasm or not. This saw has lasted me for 15 years so far and has out-performed any expectations that I could have. Guess that's why they call it a SUPER :)

Addict, You mean set the L an H 1 turn out right. OK, and if that doesn't work... which way to adjust ???

The symptoms you describe indicate a lean high speed circuit. Try turning your High speed screw out in 1/8 turn increments until the saw holds it's speed in the cut. It should slightly four stroke (blubber) when held wide open out of the cut, and smooth right out when you put it to the wood.

Whenever you go to make carb adjustments, note the present position and count the turns in to LIGHTLY seat the screws then start to make changes from where you were. At least you can then return. Any prescribed setting like One, One and a half etc. is no more than POSSIBLY adequate to get the saw to run, which you already had. Likely from description you were lean on high speed.

well there u go bud either method given will probably get the power back..
that 028 is a steady performer.. i probably shoulda had mine modded.
but i hated to fool with somethin that was so steady an so little trouble.

Thanks fellas, ya I figured since I put the tune-up kit to the carb. that I would have to re adjust the H/L jets anyway, therefore I started at the prescribed 1 1/8 turn out on each the H and L. I just didn't know which way to go on the settings to compensate for the saws lack of performance whilst buried in the wood.
