Recently I posted that I was going to order a Zubat. Sorry I lied to you all. It wasn't intentional, I just changed my mind while making up my Sherrill order and decided to try a Gomtaro instead.:) Every good thing that has been posted about Silky saws is true. In timed cuts against a new Corona the Gomtaro IS 20-30% faster and the cuts are smooth as a baby's butt! After all these years of being thrilled with the superior performance of the Corona Razor tooth compared to the old saws I started with, Silky is a Quantum leap forward! The Corona is still a great handsaw and very robust but this featherlight Silky has a home on my saddle. Thanks guys.

Silky

Stumper..

Your comments on your new saw got me to thinking.

So, I took a little survey of the saws that were sold in the past
year at my location.

Silky, 54.. this is a combination of all the different Silky saws
including the folding saws. The #1 seller is the Zubat,
followed by the Ibuki and the Accel.

Corona, 9.
Fanno, 12. (Includes the 13", 16", & 22") .

As you can see, there is nothing to compare. The numbers speak for themselves.

Congrats on you new saw. :p

kEEP LOOKING UP.

Russ,
you forgot to mention that i bought 49 0f those 54 silkys;)
well ok-- i only actually bought about 6 or so

stumper- i have a gomtaro and zubat, i bought the gomtaro about 3 years ago and like it for smaller trees like crabs and such. i got the zubat for bigger trees( ive always liked curved blades vs. striaght blades) but they are both great saws. I also bought the small yellow gomtaro(prosenti?) for my wife, it is cute, a good saw for really small trees and shrubs. It has finer teeth on the tip of blade which is kinda neat.
my brother carries a zubat on a leg scabbard and the monster ibuki on his saddle. Ask me why 2 saws? I do not know
Must be a paratrooper or ninja thing:D

The reason I chose the Gomtaro is the large number of fruit trees I work on-I find the straight blades have some advantages in tight quarters. I'll probably wind up with a Zubat eventually for bigger cuts/ bigger trees.
