sling brands

Reg, what cuts do u use on crane picks.? mismatch cuts?
as OD said, slingmax makes top-quality slings. another reputable brand we use confidently is liftex. they made both roundslings and flat nylon style. both have there place. please remember when using shackles (good practice when choking) to put the pin thru the eye and let the bow of the shackle slide on the running end. this prevents unscrewing the pin. PLEASE BUY DOMESTIC SLINGS they are the only ones with traceability. regards, tom.

Old thread. Straight through is first choice. On horizontals leaving a little ledge for the limb to sit on works pretty good too. Tree/Crane work June 2011 - YouTube

Thanks for your feedback reg. Also thank you for sharing your videos of awesome tree work.... I have my first crane job coming up Monday. Soo I'm pretty excited about that...just removing the dead tops out of a maple that is in decline and overhanging lots of valubles..... Any advice you can give me would be greatly appreciated...

It's kind of nice to see this old thread of mine dug up, seeing as I now have a crane to start learning on. I've done a few jobs with it and have one to do in the morning. Single slinged everything so far, though tomorrow I have plans to set some doubles on long horizontals without any room for tipping error.

I have two 6' and two 14' endless loop slings I'm using at the moment, just set it and hook it up.

Some very good advice as I've read some of the old posts.

I have my first crane job Monday and have a few horizontals that also have no room to tip or roll... I'll be doubling up on those and single choke the uprights... I'm pretty excited to say the least

Thanks for the thread nails... Good info here....

Awesome thread guys. Glad it was brought back up, didnt see it a week ago in my search results. You guys should take some pics and post about how the jobs went. Thanks to all who take the time out of there busy schedules to post some kick a$$ info on here.

We use nylon/polyester slings from 10-20 ft. We'll break out 15' slings for larger butts to get the ball above the butt. Its pretty rare that we have to break out a 20', and even rarer that we need to shackle multiple slings together. There have been some large willow and silver maple butts that have needed 30' in slings though.

Most every job we do with 2 ten footers on the hook. Very rare that we need to use a 3rd sling/leg. I'm not a fan of using shorter slings, and i've never tried those spider leg slings.
